Description Okay said i'd do a making of process for this cake but it morphed into a tutorial. Apologies for the length of the image but it seemed the best way to do it.
This is my first tutorial to date i think so critique is very much encouraged.

How long does it take, on average to do a design like that?

I like the tutorial. Like the style, like the quality of the photos and the simplicity. :]

However, I would've liked a picture of just the prin-picks as an example cause I was sorta confused how you went from that to drawing icing lines. Also slightly confused as to what you meant by the food colouring dripping into the lines.

oh and in respects to how much time on average does it take to do the design...it varies hugely depending on the deisgn complexity, the music I'm listening to and my mood but on average for a design that complex abotu 6-7 hours. That one took 6 and a half hours to complete.

They're absolutely beautiful though. :]

Do you think it's worth the six or seven hours?

The look on my mates faces is worth the time spent
I find it a cheaper yet somehow more meaningful birthday present then the latest daft gadget or whatever. But thats just my personal thoughts.
Plus I just love to decorate cakes *shrugs* Its like saying is it worth spending six to seven hours on a sketch which you scan in then ends up in a pile of other sketches...atleast it made people smile

I tried very hard to take a photo of the pricked lines but my camera couldn't make them out.
I shall have another go on the next cake I do.

Uhm in regards to the food colouring dripping into the lines...the make of food colouring that I use has the consitency of watery ink and will flow really easily. If you make too deep an indent/prick then the colour pools at the bottom of it an doesn't stick to the sides of it. So it basically emphasizes the fact that you marked the design out to begin with which has a tendency to look unsightly.

Glad you liked the tutorial though
