Description
(Asher's Point of View)Woah, time to practice for RENT already. Has it really been 2 weeks from tri-outs? I haven't ever seen this play before, but I'm really excited to be able to do it. Aparently, I got the part of Angel. Gabby told me he's a drag-queen who eventually dies near the end of the play from AIDS… Honestly, I hope Mike didn't cast me for this part just cuz I'm gay… Though I don't think he's the type to do something like that. Probably got the part because of my voice.
A fair amount of people went to the meeting, including Eric. I've agreed to meet up with him every Friday after school in order to review lessons and things he doesn't understand. Things are still a bit awkward around him and I, and we don't talk to each other too much, but we have the other's number at most.
I noticed him talking with Andrea and her gang. He seemed to notice me looking his way, since he waved. Shyly, I waved back. I no longer hated him, but it's taking me a little to adjust to these new feelings. For the time being, I've told myself it's hormones taking over, but...
"Alright, take a seat everyone~!" Marcus called from atop the stage. "Welcome back to all our fellow members, and welcome to the n00bs as well! Everyone's seen RENT before, right?" many people shook their heads. "…Gabby, I can't do this, take over."
"I was planning to anyway. Alright, RENT is a rock musical based on La Boheme. It tells the story of a group of young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS." She began to pass a script to Marcus.
"Ok, leads and minor leads come here for scripts. If you don't remember who you are, check this paper here." He waved a sheet in the air. "The rest of you get music numbers! (scripts are expensive…) The best part! Oh, and leads, get comfy cosy with the other leads, there's a LOT of touchy-feely parts in this play."
I took a script and flipped through it to get a feel for everything. Then we read through the script together. And much to my horror, it seems Eric was playing my character's segnifigant other… Awkwaaaard…
(Eric's Point of View)
Mike told all the leads to stay to run through the songs and go through a small dance rutien. Asher told me that it would defiantly change as time went by. The track came up to the song "I'll Cover You", and Mike told us to get our asses onto the stage. We didn't sing today, but he showed us where to move and when.
There was a hell of a lot of hand-holding and touching, but the song was so sweet. "Don't be shy," yelled Mike, "There's going to be dirty-er touching later on in the show. Just wait until we get to La Vie Boheme! Collins, pretend you're holding a very delicate girlfriend. Angel, pretend you're doing the same thing, only with a boy. Make this sweet and passionate! Let's start from the top!"
"Are you…Gay?" I asked, meaning for it to stay in my head. Asher burst out laughing, but sounded nervous as well.
"Just noticed? Might not have the accent, but I thought it was kinda obvious." He moved away from me so we can start the number once more. Oh God, this made things 1000 times more awkward than they already were.
We re-did the number following Mike's advice. We embraced, held hands, kept our faces close together and the like. By the end of the song, Mike said, "Much better. At the end, you two kiss."
"Like a stage kiss?" I asked, unsure.
Marcus laughed. "Stage kisses are for middle schoolers. No, a legit kiss."
I looked at Asher, who rested in my arms, face close to mine. "Don't worry, it doesn't mean anything, we're just acting. Not like we have to do it now anyway."
"Eh, I'm going to make you, since Eric asked such a dumb question," teased Marcus.
Asher flipped him off. My face grew hot as my sexuality began to question itself once more. If I kissed him once, would I finally figure it out?
"Asher, Eric," Mike started, "I want to see the whole thing once more. Start over, and add a kiss at the end." Asher seemed to be incredibly reluctant, and as we "danced" he seemed to avoid all contact with my eyes. Upon closer inspection to his, I realized they were actually purple! That's pretty damn cool; it's so different!
The end of the song inched closer. I became confused, flustered, and nervous all at the same time. Were we really going to--?
Soft lips quickly and slightly grazed my own. He…he really… My heart pounded, almost as if it was going to rip through my chest any moment. He basically gave me a taste of what I wanted, and it only made me crave more. Time to accept reality, self; I think I like Asher.
(Asher's Point of View)
Oh dear God, how embarassing. I could see Marcus off in the sidelines chuckling at my embarassment. I knew I shouldn't have told him about this… Gabby, Andrea and a few other girls were watching as well, all giggly and blushing and crap. Andrea loudly cat-call whistled. My face only deepened in red hues.
"You can do better than that, Asher." Argued Mike. "Next time, make it a little longer, and make it look more passionate."
Eric began to talk, "Like…" His face brushed up to my own, cheeks probably redder than mine, though it was hard to tell because of his tan skin color. His lips not only touched mine, but seemed to caress them slowly for a good two seconds. Natural reaction made me want to kiss him back quickly, but he pulled his lips away before I could return affection.
"That?" he finished.
"Much better," Mike said. Then, chuckling, he added, "You seemed to enjoy that more than you should've, Eric."
This time I saw the color in his cheeks. We both were burning hot with embarassment. But why did he kiss me again? We were forced the first time, but he did the second one freely. Losing room on my face, the blood rushed to my ears. I pulled Eric aside after we stepped off stage.
"Why'd you do that?" I whispered harshly. "Are you trying to tease me or something?" 'cause it's working…
"No, I'm not… I just… well… um…" his pretty-toned body seemed to shiver as he attempted an explanation. "I—I know this is sudden, but will you… um…" I know what comes next in that sentence, and for some reason, I felt really eager to jump at the answer at that moment. Screw you love, my IQ is suffering.
