So I had these progress pics. In case anybody wants to know how I drew this (for some weird reason), I'll tell ya!

The program I use is Gimp 2.6

First off, I scanned my lineart and set the mode to index.

I went to select color and selected all the white and cut it out. I switched the mode to RGB and scaled the image to make it workable. (Larger images make the program run slow) I selected each character's lineart, put it on its own layer group, and fixed them up. Within each layer group, I had a layer for each of the character's individual items (hair, skin, shirts, pants, etc) and colored them in.

Afterwards, I made a duplicate layer of each layer that needed shading. I locked the duplicate layers and colored them black. I set duplicate layers to overlay and erased any parts that weren't going to be part of the shading. I then unlocked the duplicate layers and used the smear tool to soften the edges. Then I made duplicates of the original layers again and without coloring them black, set them to overlay. This was the lighter parts of the layers. I also used the smear tool for these layers. I did did shading for every layer and light for each layer except for skin. For the skin, I just locked the original skin layers and used a brush to add a little shine.

I then drew a background (subspace highway, baby!).

I hope somebody can maybe use these instructions somehow in some way maybe. I tried being specific.

Oh. I have a baby bird in my bathroom now. So that's cool.
