This is Murphy, one of my newer rescue bettas. I've actually been trying to cut back on rescues, but apparently the rest of the world doesn't know this. I found Murphy abandoned on my front door step in a filthy Petco cup... on a rainy 50 degree day in the middle of January! I think he probably belonged to a neighbor, since they're the only people within driving distance who know about the fish sanctuary.
At any rate, Murphy had swim bladder issues and gill distress from the cold, but recovered from both. He has a gill deformity, as you can see, and is also a fin biter. He just recently graduated from the hospital tank this was taken in to a new 5g aquarium, to live out his life where he'll never be abandoned again.
