Earth is like a guardian or warrior. it's always vigilant in keeping any force at bay as long as possible with little effort. just like a mountain or desert, which are both natural barriers.
it's defined muscles, almost a brutish, ripped demeanor relates to the earth like the strength stone holds against weather and impact. his spear is to show how the earth, although very placid in comparison to fire, represents how the erath can "hurt", through earthquakes, rockslides and sandstorms.
the shield is like earth's resistance to any opponent that it is faced against.
