My latest work in progress...There's going to be a whole story with the characters in this piece when it's colored and complete...tba
This piece measures approx 13 1/2 inches long and about the same in height...
It's about 3 inches thick at the highest point...
I've got a cool way that I'll be mounting the piece that I'll post when it's colored etc...
Just wanted to post a work in progress....
I still have a few hours left of sculpting and refining...

Ps.This is the first time I've ever used Castilene so I was a little nervous about working with it...
I think it's my new favorite sculpting material...
I had this stuff sitting around for a few years and didn't break it out till this piece..

I got this stuff from a place called The Compleat Sculptor. The website is [link]
It's a hard sculpting wax and it's kind of spendy, but you can keep re-using it.
To tell you the truth, this is my favorite piece so far too. It's the first time I've taken an idea and really worked it out on paper and then tried to stay real close to the sketch. I usually just tear in to sculpting my ideas but now I'm trying to slow down and put in down on paper and work it out first.

Is it, er, are you working both sides or is one side flat?
I can't see how it is mounted or any armature/stand/thingy and I can't imagine you just hold onto it with your fingers and then smush the side down when worknig on the other side. I'm just perhaps nuts and missing the obvious....

No you are actually asking the right questions...
It's actually one sided...
It's a relief so it's kind of like it's a been sliced down the middle and stuck to a flat board.
It's going to be secured to a flat panel and then framed.

You bet, I was with my wife last weekend at the beach and thought of you after looking at all of the fish ans shells. Have your ever thought of doing a humorous crab? That would be awesome.

Yeah, I wanted to make it look like, if he wanted to, he could pop his eyes up on the surface of the water, kind of like a mudskipper...
i really tried pushing the proportions of the fish too, so thanks for noticing that..
