Description
... here's my first real complex multi-object scene I created since I enrolled into an "Intro to Maya" class back in late June... I'm still struggling with how to wrap bitmap textures around a distorted spherical/cylindrical surface, so be kind to me if you plan on critiquing this piece... I realize that the placeholders for the lamp and the TV are extremo-uber-cheezy... but at least it satisfied the assignment requirements in class, soo-o-o...... I've been so used to using 3DSMax and its interface, I've been struggling with the change in the hotkeys and change in basic functions in Maya... they're so incredibly different... relearning everything you "thought you knew" in a different platform has been the hardest challenge for me these past 4 weeks of summer quarter (apart from having to spend all my free time indoors when it's absolutely gorgeous weather outside)...
/me makes note to self: no more 16-credit schedules next summer...

That's one big-ass screen on that laptop... it's like a third the size of the couch...
I shouldn't be bitching, though. The only 3d program I know is Bryce and that's not saying much I like the little details, though, like the sock on the stairs and the lighting from above. the knocked-over can is a nice touch, too.

Damn, I used to have a coffee table just like that! I threw it away when I got a spool tho. Class livin I tell ya! All in all, I'm highly impressed. Maya totally baffles and hates me.

oh yea, though I took summer off.. I have 20 credit hours this fall.... spring and fall are my fav seasons.. what with rain (I love playing in the rain) and fair temps (central missouri is literally -fatally- hot in summer) so yea.. it'll be a bit of a stressor on me..

It's really looking good.. you have the basics down great.. I can't really critique you at all on textures.. rendering is not at all my strong point..
I'm in the process of teaching myself 3d in CAD (couldn't wait for the semester to start, so I worked ahead.. ) and I got the wireframe and basic laying out, and creating done just fine.. but now it's time to learn the textures, materials, lighting, blah blah...
They gave me the AutoCAD 2000 book when I enrolled in fall semester (my program was attained from last semesters class, from the teacher... kinda like a 'sold as-is' garage sale deal)

looks like the whole thing needs to be anti-aliased, but it's much better than i would be able to do.. in 3ds or other. overall, nice for your first piece
