Description
In celebration of HTTYD2 which, in a few days, is coming to DVD I did a quick sketch of a unique dragon for the HTTYD universe that has been knocking about in my head for a while called the Blistering Raggedwing.A terrifying Mystery Class dragon, very little is known about the Blistering Raggedwing. In fact for the longest time it was thought to be a myth, no more than a scary story to tell around the hearth. The legend goes that the Raggedwing was the corpse of a long dead dragon brought back to life by the wrath of the gods to terrorize Vikings foolish enough to disrespect them.
But the Raggedwing is in fact as real as any Monstrous Nightmare or Gronkle, but due to their extrordinarily foul temper and secrecy encounters are rare (and rarely every survived)
Primarily nocturnal, Blistering Raggedwings live in only the densest, murkiest forests where they fly through the trees at blazing speeds that can match even the quickest Strike Class (who knows, once more is learned about this rare dragon it might turn out to be more appropriately placed alongside the Night Fury and Skrill in Strike) Their tattered wings are spiked with dozens of claws which can make short work of anything that they come in contact with. Not a very large or well armored dragon at a mere twenty four feet in length the Raggedwing makes up for what it lacks in size in sheer ferocity. It breathes a dense stream of Chlorine gas which can cause even the fiercest of dragons to collapse to the ground choking and wheezing. But the Raggedwing has a terrifying secret weapon. One factor that contributes to its rarity is the fact that the forests it lives in must contain large volcanic springs with sulfur deposits. The sulfur is collected by the Raggedwing and consumed to enhance its breath weapon through a chemical reaction in its gut with the chlorine gas it spews to form Sulfur mustard (mustard gas) which causes large blisters and other horrendous symptoms to Vikings if blasted. Dragons hit by a Raggedwings blast will find their scales bubbling up and becoming inflamed and eventually rotting and falling off.
The Blistering Raggedwing is near impossible to train, though brave Vikings have found that an offering of Sulfur or a rotten dragon egg will calm this deadly beast.
