Description A very belated Task 5 for Round 8 of OC-training

The brief is to draw your character in their private life showing any of the following;
Favourite Food
Favourite/Best Subject at School
Position they sleep in
Secret Quirk or Habit.

Shuu has recently come to work as a maid inthe household of Amber Hunt, a half-breed detective in a setampunk victorian london surrounded by dinosaur infested junges (it's complicated )
Obviously this isn't her favourite food but it could be any of the others, I'll leave it up to you to decide which, for now.  All will become clear in a later task.

As regards the colouring, as an experiment I decide to try a monochrome colour scheme using various grey shades.  Unfortunately at least one of them ran dry which happens more often than I would like.  The perils of working on A3 paper I guess
The picture was then scanned in colour mode rather than cheat and use greyscale.
My takeaway from this is that I need a few more shades of grey for it to work properly but it was an interesting experiment.

Is it her quirk to pick locks? Maybe she enjoys snooping around the mansion?

That's the question this piece is asking.
Is it a quirk, does she do it in her sleep, or was it her favourite subject at school?

You'll have to wait for task 8 to find out...

Gotcha haha maybe the answer is all of the above!

Indeed it is, and everything will become clear in task 8, if I ever get it drawn

I love the texture you managed to get with the black background! And bah, I'm just now learning the pains of having markers dry out. You did a good job with the palette experiment, it worked out well. I also like how you got her leg shape to kinda pop out against her dress.

Thank you, but I have to admit the background texture was accidental :0

Yes, the monochrome idea worked rather well here but I still need some additional shades to perfect it.

I thought having just a plain fall of cloth would look weird so I wanted to add a little definition.  I'm glad you like the effect

Love the cool and warm grey tones you have here c:
Also looks like she's lock-picking the door - of so, cool!

Well spotted.  She is picking the lock on the door.  Which is indeed pretty cool.
Is it a quirk, is she sleepwalking, or was it her favourite school subject?  The fear task will explain it...
If I can motivate myself to draw it

Thank you.  It was a monochrome experiment and excepting the fact that one of the main colours started to run out halfway through, I'm pleased with the results

Huh... I thought she was lock picking for the longest time. O.O'

I think the coloring looks great! Despite what you think of it. ^^

She is lock picking.
The question is how does it fit into the task?
Is it a quirk?
Is she Sleeping (or sleepwalking... sleep-picking?)?
Or was it her favourite lesson at school?

Fear task will explain all

Hmmm... Was she trianed secretly by someone so that she does it unconsciously???

All interesting theories. ^^

I look forward to your Fear Task.

Cool, warm and french greys - they're look great! I like how you carefuly put shades and light tints on Shuu's face, that it appear three dimensional and simply pretty.

I'm looking forward to see "Fear" and "Anger"!

Thank you.
I'm a still a little short on greys so I'm glad you were able to pick out the shades on her skin.

Fear will definitely explain what is going on here

Lock-picking I'm guessing? Definitely a handy trick to have! x3 And I really like the monochrome colors! Very nice!

Yes an Interesting ability for a former market stall girl turned maidservant.  I wonder where it came from?

Thank you.  Setting the scene at night I thought a monochrome look would be effective.  Plus it's something I've wanted to have a try at for a while since I saw some monochrome style marvel mutant pop star posters done here on DA with copics markers.

Heh. I know what she's doing, I learned how to do that myself when working at a hardware store Very handy ability for her to use for her boss. I do like the monochrome look you've achieved here Well done!

Thank you.
It might well be a talent Amber could put to use as a detective.

If she knew anything about it...

So is this her quirk?  Lockpicking?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raqonteur In reply to pheeph [2018-04-14 08:26:44 +0000 UTC]

It could be her quirk.
She could have her eyes closed because she's concentrating.

Or maybe it's because she's sleepwalking?

Or maybe it was her favourite subject she learned at school?  I wonder what kind of school might teach that?

I'm not giving away which is true... yet.  Gotta keep people interested while I catch up 😉
