Trying to find a good book,
Is like sifting through garbage for jewels.
Find something you think shows promise,
Wipe off the dirt and take a look.
Read the summary, and the first page or so.
Scratch the surface, to see if it holds true
You might put it back, because it’s nothing but junk,
But maybe you hesitate on the final ‘no’.
Maybe it seems like you judged it too fast,
So maybe it could be more than just trash.
Take it home, take it with you
Take your time, let it last.
It could turn out to be zirconium, or just shiny glass
It could be the find of a lifetime, your new number one.
You never know until it’s over, or nearly so,
Whether it’s a jewel to be treasured, or discarded like trash.
