story time!!James was a child who fell into the underground like any others, but something was different... when he got out of the ruins, he ran into the woods, unlike frisk who would take the normal passage. he managed to create himself a mask to hide his human face and blend in with other monsters. he entered into the royal guard at age 11, since undyne saw how strong he was, and could get. he got a home that would sit near hotland, and actually became friends with red, as her position was in the same area. this is when frisk fights james, but he can only be found after fighting red.

James is a human with a knife, and he looks a lot bigger than frisk.
I think if Frisk went on a genocide run he'd just wreck her.

And he has to be at least kind of strong or he wouldn't make it into the Royal Guard.
Plus he's human. I cannot overstate that. People are stronger than monsters and can deal a lot more damage.

It is true that he can deal a lot of damage. It's just that he has low defense. A jacket and mask can only do so much to protect him. Though he says he has armor on...

Frisk has a striped shirt and can tank damage.

One more thing: He looks older. That mean's he's probably stronger.
