I've made this tile a loooong time ago(november 99!) as part of a theme for the rather unknown UDE(Unix Desktop Environment).It's a little big for a tile but it's still a tile!
The inspiration for this came from the unique frame menu of UWM which is a hexagonal set of buttons.

My english is not good too, but i said i live ine France and the map of France is like an hexagon, and it's why the french people love the hexagonal forms !!
