Aside from several spelling errors, this is a great tutorial! I'll be adding it to my collection of tutorials!

well...that happens a lot to me...and I can't even blame it on the fact that "English ain't my first language" since I misspell sh*t in Bulgarian as well
It's a darn shame too, 'couse it makes me look stupider than I usually do

And thank you for the hard work. Lighting is not an easy subject, but you've made the tutorial pretty fun and easy to follow. This work really deserves the DD.

AmeixKon In reply to ??? [2010-09-26 16:38:38 +0000 UTC]

wow thank you very much!! But what about rising/setting sun shadows, would it be the same thing or different?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

K-i-s-s-h-u In reply to AmeixKon [2010-09-26 17:17:58 +0000 UTC]

It would be the same thing, just at a different angle because the source of light would be lower in the sky. You would end up tracing the light and shadow points from the source of light in the same way that you did in the tutorial.

AmeixKon In reply to K-i-s-s-h-u [2010-09-26 17:33:55 +0000 UTC]

I understand that, but, how would I make the points? The pole thing isn't there because the sun is below the horizon...

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

K-i-s-s-h-u In reply to AmeixKon [2010-09-26 18:33:07 +0000 UTC]

The pole would actually be at horizon level, almost even with the light.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Ratrien In reply to AmeixKon [2010-09-26 17:52:04 +0000 UTC]

The "pole thingy" is an imagery line FROM the sun TO the horizon in order to find a simple Point on the ground from where to trace the surface lines....soooooooo - in the case of a sunset/rise you'll just trace directly from the the point on the horizon where the sun IS ^^
Thank you very much for the attention and effort to understand my gibber-jabber ^^

This will be useful, in the past, I've just eyeballed shading, which, for the quality of work I do, has managed to get me by, but even I knew that couldn't last forever.

So yeah, this is of use to me...

A simple, yet very in-depth tutorial with ideas and mechanics that a lot of other shadow tutorials leave out because they think it's "too complicated."

I really like this. ^,^

im trying to understand this... it's REALLY hard, because if an shadow is on the top, we need to do an equation to see where the light comes

Oh, finally. Shadows have been the one area of perspective I could never get. Either the illustrations would be too disjointed or the demonstration would move too fast. Go flash slideshows! ...And you weren't too bad yourself, of course.
