I have installed Zune and when i click on music it opens windows meida. any way i can force it to open zune?

Hello Raymon,
here's my report for Newgen 5.0:
General usability and performance bugs
- When UAC is activated, Newgen doesn't start automatically at windows startup although it is marked in the settings.
- Performance is getting slower with every new version
- Sometimes if OOBE is activated and you switch to the desktop via the desktop widget and back to start screen it is black.
- If OOBE is activated the startbar seems to be too small for the text. The c from connect appears in the next row.
- Pictures hub is not dragable like the start screen. Don't know if video hub is dragable but it should be.
- Sometimes the startbar stays open until you klick on the start button. Mostly this appears if you re-arrange the tiles on the screen or switch to desktop
via desktop widget.
- StartBar should be able to open from every hub (Internet Explorer, Video, Pictures).
- Setup should have an option to add a shortcut to the startmenu, desktop, quick start bar.
Widgets bugs
- Store Widget:
The widgets control panel and newgen team doesn't show up in the add tiles bar although they are installed.
Some Widgets like music needs to be installed more times to show up in add tiles bar.
Startbar bugs
- If you open the search hub you get an error message "An error occurred. Do you want report it to Newgen Team".
I'm working on some design pages for Newgen at the moment.
As soon as they are ready I will mail them to you.
Would be great if you use them for future releases.

the problem is in your internet connection. maybe your connection is too slow. newgen only supports 2languages for now.

Nice that you took the mosaic code and made some stuff different. I like some features you added but still prefer mosaic, with this one I can't click behind the program layer, but good luck. Soon there'll be an windows 8 beta anyway.

I do know how to use it, it just isn't meant to do what I want from it. Mosaic have an option to fullscreen or not, this one is always fullscreen, you have to use left border multitask, taskbar or alt tab to reach something behind program layer, can't just directly click on it.

about fullscreen, we will bring back the option what you want on the next build. about your second problem, play around the settings hub.

Hi Raymon,
I'm not able to register at codeplex so I tell you my report on Newgen here.
I've used every release of NewGen and must say it's brilliant work but every new release is more buggy than the one before.
The new version 4.0 runs very very slow on my system.
The last one 3.0 runs way better.
If you open the Store you can't install the Control Panel Widget.
It says it is installed but doesn't show up in the app list.
So far for the criticism!
Some suggestions for future releases:
- Messenger Widget that shows all online contacts from windows live and facebook with one click access to the windows live messenger
- RSS-Reader Widget that shows News from all over the World
Functionality suggestions:
- The Music Widget should either open the music library like the Video Widget opens the video library or should open the Zune Player.
- The Pictures Widget should not open the folder where the previewed photo is in. It should work like the Video Widget and should only open the pictures library.
- The startbar should be accessible from every opened hub. In the Internet Explorer hub you have to press ESC to get back to the start screen. It would be better if yu could open the startbar and click on the start button.

it's because of new animations. now, we're making animations smooth.
We're still testing store widget. we will improve it on our next version.
Sometime you can't install other widget due to slow internet connection. we will implement "catch" trick on the next version so that it will work better.
I have fever now, so i don't think we can release our new version soon.

I tried Rainmeter, Mosaic and this NewGen project which seems to have the most potential.Rainmeter is to limited and this comes closer to Win8 as Mosaic.So good luck for working on this.

others thought that too. But actually Newgen team will not compete to mosaic project. our goal is to copy the style of win8 nui and stealth2009 always saying that he doesn't want to copy win8. so it's clearly newgen and mosaic has different goal.
btw newgen is now on beta and will planning to release it as stable soon.
Mosaic Project is now active too. I like the new animation and widgets integrated to lockscreen. Really cool.

but it's clear that both teams were adopting the Windows Vnext's Start screen so it's easy to say that you have a common goal but slight difference in concept.. Yes mosaic is active now and i like their concept which is optimized for touch...

Actually on his first build he said already that he will not clone/adopt win8 to mosaic. Almost people asking him to copy the win8 startscreen but he always saying that he will not copy it. That's why we create a group/team to adopt win8 on our project.

ok.. there's nothing to argue.. Truly, they will not clone Windows 8 because they don't have a copy of Windows 8 but that's not necessarily mean that they cannot clone the Start screen.. the only difference right now is that they don't have the word "Start" and the user tile.. Anyway, to date, what you have seen in the leaked builds are far away different with the actual builds that Microsoft are cooking in Redmond.

5. clock on left when showing startbar
6. minutes ramaining before refresh on gmail widgets

8. tiles resizing and tiles spacing
9. option to start when widows is login
10. background transparency
AND ALSO NEWGEN HAS NO COOL ANIMATION ON DESKTOP WIDGET LIKE ON MOSAIC PROJECT. AND NEWGEN HASN'T INTEGRATED WIDGETS ON THE LOCKSCREEN.
