Description My assignment was to emulate a more classic illustration style, specifically that of Arthur Rackham. (a fantastic english illustrator from the early 1900s)

It was a very enjoyable process, as it broke me out of my comfort zone, and approach my original piece with a new creative outlook.  I really enjoy seeing kitty and lockheed in this classic fairy tale style.

fav.me/d31pi39 to my original piece.

How much would you charge for a piece like this? How long to complete?

I love this! The look is so beautiful, and it really captures the lighthearted relationship classic Kitty and Lockheed shared. Wonderful wonderful piece!

I absolutely love Rackham's style, and I think Kitty and Lockheed make the perfect subjects for an emulation. You did a great job!

Great exploration of style...reminds me of Charles Vess' work.
And I have to say that this is probably my favourite illustration of Lockheed ever!

I really thought this was from a storybook when I first saw it cuz it's so different than your usual style. It's really interesting! How did you get the blotched look?

thanks! this piece really was great fun to do, as it differed from my usual style. as for the blotching, i just made some watercolour type brushes and messed with various opacities.

This style looks like it'd make a great fairy-tale style story for an X-book. She feels very much like herself and Lockheed too... If a tale was told in an X-men comic like this, I know I'd read it.

Well done!

i agree. i would love to see an X-story told visually through classic illustration. i believe the Marvel universe has enough depth to plunge characters and stories into different time periods and styles. sometimes it's nice to get away from shiny spandex and bright skin tight leathers.

thanks for your comment aidenke!

Oh, very much so (about your depth comment). They've done it before in very limited ways, but as you say, it'd be nice to see a long one-shot or a miniseries done through that lens. Non-traditional story-telling in a way different then anything else they put out. If handled by good talent, both writing and drawing, I think it'd pull a good number of people in!

Ah well - we can dream, right?

it true. and if they don't want to take on the challenge, i think it might be a lot of fun to do it myself! hahah!
