Description
Entirely done in UltraFractal 5.04. Illustration for a book from the Russian Sci-Fi series "Ethnogenez"Enormous thanks to ^n8iveattitude1 for sugesting my work as DD!!! Thanks a lot to all people who will like and favorite this work!!!
This is also an homage to one of the greatest seascape artists ever - Ivan Aivazovsky. Recognized very young as a genius he made a long and successful carrier and drew 6,000 oil paintings, mostly of seascapes!!! It's interesting that, while making real masterpieces when painting the sea and using only his imagination (no studies in open air), he was absolutely mediocre in any other subject that doesn't involve the sea.

this is really great and full worthy a DD...
belated congrats...
i thank you for pointing out Aivazovsky... i'll check him... my fave seascape painter so far is Schnars-Alquist, a german painter... but he was well underway on ships and studied in nature... i only know him by chance, because i inherited an old book about him from my grandfather...

Oh, Aivasovsky was recognized as a seascape genius very young and is much better artist than this German. Just imagine what means to make 6,000+ paintings in his style, some very big like 6X4 meters. He often was taken by admirals on the flagman ship to see a battle and paint it later. Yet it is absolutely strange how bad he paints say - human figures when there is no sea. They come static, absolutely out of life. If however there is a sea, even in some small part of the painting, everything changes and he does a master work.

just took a glance on aivazovsky's works... it's really nice to see...
what i like about schnars-aquist and prefer (on first thought) are his plain water paintings... just the water in certain areas of the ocean... i was about to say sort of "dry facts", haha... the aivasovsky paintings look more romantic to me, which i don't dislike at all...
thanx again for pointing him out, i'll look again...

Yep, schnars-aquist ships look static and not very alive. Aivazosky has really a lot, I told you more than 6,000 paintings and every museum in Russia is full of him. Considered probably his best by experts is - [link] Sorry that there isn't article in English, but if you do a click over the painting, you can save it at very high-res

The contrast between the regularity of the lines in the foreground and the more spontaneous lines around the ship is perfect it makes the fractal seem much more painterly
