~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently, I've come across an anime-style avatar creator, and it is currently my newest mini-obsession alongside Cave Story and Digimon Ver PC. Since I still have no scanner, and therefore can't upload any of my drafts, I decided I could use this opportunity to introduce everyone to my own cast of characters from my own imagination, because although drawing Mario never gets old for me, it will get old for you eventually. ^_^;
Being my digital persona, Axel Voss is everything I wish I was and always wanted to be. He's a sort of alter-ego, you might say. I am Axel and Axel is me. I didn't quite get his outfit to match his original design, but that tends to happen with most of these characters, and hopefully you get the general idea of their designs from these recreations.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Axel is the son of Elias Aubryn, a forest elf and an accomplished blacksmith, and Alexa Voss, a Draconi (a race of humanoid creatures with draconic qualities, such as horns that grow from their temples, and brightly-coloured eyes). He spent most of his young life in Cerridwen's Hollow, a peaceful forest village in the kingdom of Gondorma. There, his only concerns were goofing off, exploring the forest and avoiding his naggety forest fairy guardian, Cierra. He had good friends, good food, a loving family, and acres upon acres of wood to explore. That was all that mattered to him.

That quickly changed when he was about twelve years old. Axel was waltzing around the village, performing his daily duties of being a nuisance to the livestock and dodging Cierra's watchful gaze, when he happened to pass by the Great Tree, in which the village elders had their meetings. He overheard the elders in a conversation with his parents about his destiny. You see, there is a legend known throughout the land of Gondorma that states that long ago, the land was ravaged by forces chaos and evil. No one remembers exactly what caused it, but only because over the years, the people tried in earnest to forget the tragedies that had befallen the land. If you were to ask anyone, all they could tell you is that Gondorma was once a land of destruction, corruption, chaos, and pure, refined evil, such that no one could bring themselves to dare to venture outside their homes. Many brave knights of the Kingdom and its neighboring allies tried to combat the dark forces, but none prevailed.

In the midst of the chaos, a great hero known only as the Dragon Warrior arose and fought to return peace to the land using an ancient and powerful artifact, so sacred and mysterious and bathed in such a heavenly glow that no one has ever seen it directly. The elders refer to this powerful item as "HeavenGate", which was used to imprisoned the dark forces in an extradimensional Void. The only entrance to this Void was sealed behind enormous stone doors in an old and forgotten temple by the HeavenGate itself.

At the time of the meeting, the HeavenGate's seal that kept the doors to the Void so tightly shut was beginning to weaken. The elders predicted that the seal would soon be broken, and that the land would once again plunge into disorder and evil. In Cerridwen's Hollow, the birthplace of the Dragon Warrior, a tradition is passed down along his bloodline from grandfather to grandson: the first son of every other generation will take on the role of the previous Dragon Warrior, maintaining the peace of Gondorma and wielding the sacred HeavenGate. It just so happened that Axel was to become the next Dragon Warrior, and take on all the duties that a savior of the land would have to uphold.
But the idea of being responsible for so many lives and the expectations that would be had of him were simply too much for Axel to bear. He had no confidence in his skills as a hero, and so he decided that it would be best for everyone if he left, and they chose a new Dragon Warrior (Not that he knew that wasn't how it worked...) to take his place.

So, Axel packed the essential supplies (A sword forged by his father, some food, a dragon-tooth ocarina given to him by his mother, and Cierra, held captive in a bottle so she wouldn't squeal to his parents) and set off into the woods in search of a new life away from the perils of his responsibility. In his flight, he came across a ruined temple. It rested in a secluded grove he had never visited before, naturally peaking his curiosity. This temple proved to be filled with traps and minor monsters; clearly it was meant to guard something. Axel's adventuring spirit blazed as he hacked through enemies and deftly maneuvered between swinging blades, having the time of his young life.

In the depths of the temple, at the very pit of the dungeon-like structure, he encountered the most puzzling thing of all. A colossal set of stone doors stood exactly in the middle of the vault. He checked all sides of the doorway and concluded that it led nowhere. Why was it there? He had to know, and thus immediately began searching the room for any sort of hint. All he could find was a stone tablet set into a far wall, with what appeared to be the notes of a song inscribed upon it. Remembering his mother's words, Axel decided that he may as well take his ocarina, and try to unlock the power this song might hold. The slow, haunting melody echoed across the vast chamber as he played. The moment the final note escaped from his instrument, the purpose of the song was revealed to him. At once, the giant stone doors were thrown asunder, torn apart by legions of demons pouring from the space inside the door frame. Axel watched in horror as the massive room quickly flooded with monsters, and though he did attempt to fight, he was powerless against the endless sea of the damned. Gripping tightly to his only worldly possessions for dear life, he was swept into the door from which evil came, and disappeared.

It is exactly because he ran away from his fears that Gondorma once again was plunged into chaos and evil. Whoops.

Over the following years, he would have many adventures across time, space and dimensions. He would gain close friends and terrible foes. He would journey to world after world after world in his attempt to return to Gondorma and save it from disrepair. He would join his friends and allies together to form the most multiversally famous band of heroes in existence, known as the Light Brigade. And finally, Axel would one day lead the Light Brigade back to Gondorma, to complete the mission that he was destined to accomplish as the Dragon Warrior.

As the leader of the Light Brigade, Axel is bold, daring, courageous, and always ready to help; he's clearly matured a bit since childhood. Nevertheless, even as a young adult Axel is plagued with bouts of irresponsibility and rash decision making, and his adventurous spirit often gets the Light Brigade into more trouble than it solves. He and his closest friends Dax, Tobias, Natalie, Rachel,  form the Light Brigade's top-ranked squad, the Crimzon Silver.

Cierra still remains faithfully flitting by his side, trying in vain to keep Axel out of trouble (or stuffed in a bottle if her constant nagging proves to be too much). She has a motherly streak a mile long, and maybe she nags just a little too often. But no matter how much of a burden Cierra and Axel consider each other to be, they still care deeply about each other, and Axel considers her to be his big sister. She has a bit of a weakness for shiny gems, and she despises monsters in every sense of the word. Works out well considering Axel fights all kinds of monsters on a daily basis, eh?
