Description Paris (France), February 2017

The Tour Saint-Jacques, a 58-meter high tower which is all that remains of the medieval church Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie (thus named because the neighbourhood was home to numerous butchers at the time), is located at the almost exact geographic centre of Paris. It has long-standing esoteric associations, one of them may be traced to its proximity with the house of the famous alchemist Nicolas Flamel, who is rumoured to have achieved the transmutation of lead into gold in the late 14th century. The tower is also one of the departure points for the pilgrimage to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, both being placed under the patronage of Saint Jacques / Santiago / Saint James : the French historian René de La Coste-Messelière thus called the Tour Saint-Jacques "the first and highest milestone of the Way of Saint James".

Nowadays, the top of the tower hosts a weather observatory and provides a 360-degree panoramic view over all the landmarks of the French capital. To discover the vista from this Gothic beacon, see : Disturbance in the Matrix .

Thank you ! The Tour Saint-Jacques underwent restoration work for more than ten years, but it is now back to its former glory.

The golden hue and contrast with the dark sky in the background look beautiful here - excellent photograph!

Thanks a lot ! The perspective of the tower works particularly well at sunset.
