Do you do something special to get the contrast between the crisp focal point and the fuzzy background? I guess I usually end up with a crisp everything instead of a nice contrast :/

I use a setting(most likely "portrait" or "Close Up Focus" on the camera that that focuses only the center of the picture crisp and leaves the outer parts of the picture out of focus. I would check your camera's manual book to see which setting would do that best on your camera.
All though, I do occational use Corel and Adobe Photoshop to do that to a picture like yours. I have don't remember exactly how to do that to a normal picture off the top of my head. Sorry

Ohhh, that makes a lot of sense, haha. I always use my "high-speed shutter" when I take pictures of Clare (because she's constantly moving!), but I'll definitely give that a try (:

I used treats to entice Maddie to stay still and I only took 2 non-blury pictures. I have a lot of work to do with her!

I asked for a photoshop program for my birthday last year, and that was one of the 2 things I got last year. I bought Corel Pro Paint Shop, but I wish I had gotten Adobe Photoshop. Maybe next year*shrugs*

It is but, it is a good investment because you can use it as long as your computer dosen't die. Plus, you will use photoshop alot!
