Description This work has probably taken longer to finish than just about anything else I've ever worked on; mostly due to extraneous events happening rather than the complexity of the image. Originally this project was started in mid-2003 and I've only just now finished it.

I originally modeled this using a combination of Poser and Bryce; the basic female default figure from Poser as well as a basic skull. These components were imported into Bryce where, after many delays and changes, the other shapes, forms and textures were all applied and rendered.

After being rendered as a 20x30 inch canvas I began the laborious task of airbrushing over the basic textures and forms using Photoshop 7. For the most part this post-production work was preformed with a single-pixel airbrush tool, occasionally going as high as a five-pixel brush.
By using such small brush sizes it greatly increased the amount of effort and work required but it also made it possible to work in the tiny details visible in the full sized canvas; some of which can only be hinted at and glimpsed in this much smaller preview.

Quite frankly the sheer volume of work required was quite intimidating and resulted in my working on it only sporadically from 2004 until now but it is finally completed.

This is extremely well done! The compostion, lighting, use of positive and negative space. Im very impressed (and that's very hard to do).

Thank you. Negative space has always been one of my favorite tools.

This is beautiful. It reminds me of H.R. Giger's Tarot series. Which, as I'm sure you know, are very well done in dark tones with shadows creating the details.

its a pentacle, the square and compasses and somehow the logo for OBOD - The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids... something tells me the image resolution could be bigger.

realitysquared In reply to AD689 [2007-09-01 13:12:30 +0000 UTC]

The actual resolution is 20x30 inches at about 200 pixels per inch. I just don't post that particular file on the internet.

Those glyphs around on the ring around the head look extremely familiar. I also recognise the seal on the chest. Excellent work. What are the glyphs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

realitysquared In reply to Abhorath [2007-08-09 10:58:18 +0000 UTC]

The Glyphs come from a font called "Alchemy" which I downloaded to several years back because it was fairly unique because of the symbol usage.

The symbol is a stylized pentacle which I include in nearly every work.

Abhorath In reply to realitysquared [2007-08-09 11:53:54 +0000 UTC]

That's very interesting. I really enjoy the more 'occult' concepts, such as those alchemical glyphs (I see some are astrological; the two coincide quite often) and the pentacle. If I'm not mistaken, that pentacle is from the Necronomicon?

Anyway, still saying excellent job, hehe.

realitysquared In reply to Abhorath [2007-08-09 18:13:49 +0000 UTC]

That particular pentacle was on the cover of the bogus 'necronomicon' that was published a couple decades ago. I liked the design so I adopted it.

Ok I am sure you have already heard this before. But, you have definitley captured Giger's style and made it your own.
I love the use of the symbolic message.

This would look so awesome painted on the tank of a chopper. Consider it. Hell how about a whole chopper themed on this piece?

This is effing awesome! It actually made me shiver a bit when I saw the thumbnail in my messages. I'm gonna put it in my favourites so that I can buy the print when I finally have money.

You know what the only thing is that could be cooler? If you made a sculpture of it from actual metal. Like a 3D canvas. But made of metal. I can't describe how awesome that would be without having to heavily censor my own comment.

Amazing image! I'm surprised with your talent, as till now I saw you as the almighty policy staff director.

The fact that it has taken so much time to be completed adds value to the final image. I see it as a mix between H.R.Giger classic toning and claustrophobic ambiences, mixed with a more futuristic and polished approach.

Congratulations for such compelling work Daniel.

It took forever- mostly because I kept putting it off in favor of other things but also because I mostly used a single pixel brush on a 20x30 inch canvas (damn my high standard for detail )

Impressive The details and overall impact of the imagery is wonderful, I especially admire how it has the same color tone throughout but yet loses none of the detail, well done lighting in that respect - your hard work paid off well

this is absolutely breathtaking. the amount of detail and tireless work is evident in the final production. the crisp colours and cool contours really add to a very surreal, very abstract emotion.

simply fantastic.

i hesitate to say that i am reminded of h.r. giger, but want you to know that while i see an influence, this is the farthest thing from him. i hope that makes sense?

Wow! This is amazing. Crisp and clear too. This had to take alot out of you. This is a very unique piece. I have not seen one like this anywhere on DA. Very original. Loe the tone you use also. Gives it a sense of power, and deep mystical mystery.
