Description Once again I've simply cleaned up an old freehand work which was previously submitted.

Originally drawn with pencil and paper while referancing a picture of my wife for the features and an older 1930s photograph for the pose.

I've cropped the original, preformed some minor adjustment to the colors, contrast and levels using photoshop in order to offer this as a print.

Une dame avec un chapeau.
Classic elegance. I especially enjoy the dominating orb shape of the hat.
This feels like conte crayon.

Her eyes are nice, though I get a feeling of sadness from them. Meh, I'm just weird. Nice picture.

I admire how TRUE you stayed to the slight asymetry of her features...Tells me you have some affection for your subject~there is love there, yes?...Most pencil-artists and portraitits don't do this...The good ones do...This woman you drew; do you know her?
You draw what you see, ~good. clap:

This was done on flesh-tone paper, yes?...You might have pointed that out in your description for lesser-experienced and/or aspoiring pencil artists who may become frustrated trying to duplicate the effect

Perhaps you went a little heavy on the white "charcoal"...

Beautiful work

It was actually 'standard' white sketching paper- the background coloring was originally done with soft pencil shading which picked up a slight color tone during the scanning process. A bit later I went and smoothed everything out using Photoshop to give it it's current appearance.

Ohhhh~ forgive me ...A trad. artist; I should've entertained the posibility; i.e....

slight color tone during the scanning process.

...Honestly~ Doesn't that BOTHER you

A bit later I went and smoothed everything out using Photoshop to give it it's current appearance.

*sighs* Well~ a necessary evil, then... I hope my comment didn't detract from my assessment of it's overiding value. It really is a successful piece

I've had the hue change happen on a couple of pieces which I've scanned (this one and Leopard picked up an accidental yellow tone) and it doesn't really bother me since in both cases the image came out looking a bit better.

I really like this piece... the hat and who 30s vibe is very much appreciated. The shading is also really great, you have seem to have a good control of light. The only thing I would work on is the neck positioning. it seems to be a slightly awkward angle, and the nose is the tiniest bit crooked (but hey... maybe her nose is crooked!) Thanks for sharing your art!

The only thing that bothers me is that it looks like her head is on backwards...

The shading is cool.. The way teh hair disappears in the hat etc, the way the pic is unfinished gives it a somewhat "lighter" feel.. Also, again, I adore pencil works!! I wonder why my shading never looks as smooth?

Woman's expression is cool.. As if she'd be staring onto something, yet looking a bit sad or "awaiting"... Calm, yet she has something in the eyes that makes the drawing not so simple.. Gotta love it

Befor reading your description the overall impression was that of an early 1900"s image.

Very fine work.

Freehand is the ultimate artistical expression.

My first thought when seeing this is it has an older look to it - as stated in your description.

But the more I look at it...it almost seems to have a modern feel...I don't know why. Maybe the black and white simplistic style? Or the fact she seems to fade into the background? I like that is seems to have a little of the old and the new in it.

I suck at drawing, so I can't really critique the technical aspects of this...but it seems like her nose might be a little too dark on the left side? It almost seems to slant sideways because of the heavy shadows. But that's just me.

Nice to see some traditional mediums...I can't do jack with a pencil - that's why they invented Photoshop.
