Martin Toynbee suffered from his mutation since childhood, which made him an outcast in his hometown. He was forced to hide from people on the streets until Magneto found him. Toad gladly joined the ranks of the Brotherhood of Mutants, wanting to take out all his accumulated anger and resentment on people who despised him. Despite his hard life, Martin is still quite a cheerful buffoon.
