What's this? A digital art that isn't an old piece I found in my obscure folders? IT'S A MIRACLE!!!!!

I've been in a bit of an art funk lately; either I haven't had any motivation to make anything, or I've had intense motivation...but no ideas. I think it's a combination of exhaustion from moving, and then the added mental drain of starting work again that've just sapped my creativity. I've made some doodles here and there, and I even got a couple of marker drawings in (which I'll post as soon as I remember to take a photo...) but I haven't really had the motivation to commit to a digital piece. The thought of carefully crafting every single layer just...didn't appeal to me for a while.

Luckily, I finally changed that. I worked on this piece on and off for the last few weeks, but today I finally found my motivation and got the thing done. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

This piece kind of goes with a story that's taken root in my head recently; one of the key things within the story is the species I made up known as the "Strato-Walkers," and they have 3 subspecies. One of these subspecies is the "Stormwalkers," known for their lightning abilities and their tendency to take literally everything in life to the extreme. (They literally live on an island surrounded by constant storms, raging oceans, and tons of sea life that wants to kill them constantly; and they like it.) Another species that lives alongside the Strato-Walkers is the Sky Serpents, who have sub-species based on the elements. One of the noteworthy ones is the Rapid Riders, aka the Water Serpents. They inhabit the waters near the Stormwalkers' home, and the two species regularly engage in battle, which leads to things like this.

I've been mulling over each Strato-Walker subspecies' culture and what their ancient artwork would look like, and for the Stormwalkers I settled on an art style influenced by the Vikings. I imagine the Stormwalkers having a similar reputation as the Vikings--especially when it comes to battles--and also imagine their homeland to be similarly harsh and oceanic, so I felt the style fit. I had a lot of fun once I got the general aesthetic down, and I think it turned out cool; kind of has the look of an old scroll or tapestry depicting an ancient battle with a sea serpent.
(And YES I know it's not EXACT to the style of Viking artwork, but the goal wasn't to be exact; just take some stylistic influence from it in terms of the line work and patterns.)
