I met Amy for the first time in person last Thursday, when we met up in a little coffee house so we could meet out of the studio and get to know each other before we worked in the studio. What was supposed to be a brief encounter to meet and discuss the upcoming shoot turned into two and a half hours of wonderful conversation that left me energized and excited to get into the studio with her. When we got to the studio a couple days later I was not at all disappointed. It was a real joy to meet and to work with Amy, and I'm hoping that this will be the start of many shoots to come with her.
What I love most about this particular shot is the softness of Amy's expression. There's something rather stunning about it that really shows through here to show something about her that makes me think of her as a gentle and warm person.

I love the way you allowed the texture of the skin to be a prominent part of the piece.
Her freckles are gorgeous, and the lighting is fantastic.

Really love light, something like a sculpture, light on background is something I'd like to contrast in this wonderful way.

The lighting on the background is really what allows the light to shape itself the way it does.... the entire image is lit using the light from the background.

In a way, the freckles were part of the subject here.... I definitely wanted to allow them to remain prominent rather than allowing them to be minimized as some photographers might choose to do.

Obviously the light is pretty fantastic, as is the emotional content of the pose. It is worth mentioning that the composition is quite nice -- the way the bend and angle of the arms frames the face and contributes to the flow from the upper right corner to the lower left corner is pretty cool.

thanks, the piece still presents some challenges for me as far as perhaps improving upon it in the future, however I am quite happy with both the way the work turned out and the response it has received.

I've been putting a lot more thought and attention into my work, trying to learn to paint with light and to create a mood within the image using form and expression to tell the story with the light supporting the mood created by the model.
