Description
Assignment for computer illustration, character spread. Its my roller coaster character, Railrunner from my story:WHAT HAPPENS TO AMUSEMENT PARK RIDES ONCE THEY ARE PUT INTO STORAGE OR DESTROYED? They are magically transported to a place only known as “Amusement Park Between”, a park that co-exist within any other and is only accessible by those who are of its blood. There are no limits and no humans. The only residents are the rides. However, they are much different from our own. Amusement Park Between’s rides are ALIVE, having both the characteristics of man and beast. Amusement Park Between was once merry and joyous, but for the past several years it has spiraled into turmoil. An evil tyrant known as Ironwheel has taken control, casting a dark shadow over Amusement Park Between, and whose evil intentions endanger both their world and our own. The rides only hope is the key to their prophecy; the red will defeat the black. That particular key is the only ride that was created differently. The red roller coaster, Railrunner. AND THIS IS HIS STORY.
Yes, these rides are BIO MECHANICAL, meaning they are metal on the outside, flesh on the inside.
Yes, these rides are BIO MECHANICAL, meaning they are metal on the outside, flesh on the inside.
Railrunner the red roller coaster. He's many things - stubborn, willful, clever, rough around the edges, and a bit of a party-goer with an addiction for love(only with his wife XD) and anything with alcohol in it. He's a rather colorful character with even more colorful language. Railrunner has an incredibly troubled past that makes his temper short and causes a lot of unpredictable behavior - most of it violent and he reverts to his predatory nature. Of course, he does have a mushy side. Railrunner's handsome voice and genuine personality makes him a true gentleman.

You're welcome. Just curious, is the coloring on the right hand page done digitally or is that marker or something?

Awesome. I really really appreciate these character sheets because I get a much clearer idea who your characters are. I always find myself looking at your work when it appears on #wtf-oc but I was always really confused on anatomy and how these creatures function. This makes it so much easier to understand.

You repeated "Yes, these rides are BIO MECHANICAL, meaning they are metal on the outside, flesh on the inside." in the description.
I like the skull. The position of the holes makes me wonder how the noses of roller coasters work: the roller coasters appear to have nostrils on the top of their heads, but the holes in their skulls for the nostrils are on the sides.
Do the coasters simply have extra holes in their skull for muscle attachment or lightness that happen to resemble nostril holes?

= D allow me to ask you this question:
= ) So, is Railrunner designed off of the Arrow Dynamics steal coaster line? = ) Looking at your reference sketch on the page above the colored image, it immediately made me think of my homeride at work:
[link]
= ) I think you've done an absolutely amazing job with this. Who would've ever thought to give coasters some human characteristics. Amazing if you ask me. = D Also out of curiosity... are you planning on expanding this idea to the more recent designs of coasters:
Examples:
- B&M Wing Rider
- 4 Dimension
- Giga/Strata from Intamin AG
- Intamin LSM Dispatch Coaster (Like Maverick or Cheetah Hunt)
Sorry if I'm asking so much about this, you've just really peaked my interest...

lol, sorry about my incredibly late reply! Thanks for liking my work In the Between world, I made it so the coasters fit to a template, but yes I do plan to draw other designs down the road
By homeride at work, do you mean you work on Vortex at Kings island? That's cool, I've never been there myself. It would be cool to get up close and personal with some of the coasters for reference and inspiration.

= D Yes, homeride is a term used meaning the location that one is at 90% of the time.
I actually began sharing a bit about your series and characters to my crewmates and some where quite surprised.
When I saw your reference for Railrunner and how you designed him off an Arrow coaster, I was downright amazed (when you've worked one for two years you truly can see their attitude). So when I looked at RRs specs and personality, I was like "Yep, that makes sense".
One of the things that you may find interesting, is that Vortex (the coaster I worked this year) was the first Arrow Dynamics coaster to go upside down 6 different times when it opened in 1987.
According to records, the ride also was the first to feature a Boomerang (other companies refer to it as a Batwing or similar.
= D If you are ever in Southern/Southwest Ohio, be sure to drop a line... I'll be more then honored to show you around. Along with Vortex, we have another Arrow coaster that is our Hybrid Mine Ride. We also have a true Woodie that you HAVE to ride if you visit... The Beast has held its ground as one of the Longest wooden-terrain coasters in the country, and even has it's ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) Historic Landmark recognition, hopefully to never be torn down.
The amount of coasters at the park I work are numerous and has every rider in mind... if you also want more coasters to use for inspiration, you could also consider visiting Cedar Point, the sister park near Sandusky.

Ah...
lol. Though I haven't been there, my parents have - back in the 80's 90's? Defiantly in B.C (before children era as I call it) It was defiantly when the Beast was newer so probably shortly after 1979. I've been wanting to go ever since they told me. I've ridden the Voyage numerous times at Holiday World though - the longest coaster I've ridden to date. I actually haven't gotten to ride a coaster in close to three years now since college and all that. I'm in desperate need of a fix XD. Along with King's Island, Cedar Point is a definite destination in the future. lol I want to go on Millennium, Top thrill Dragster, okay all 17 coasters in their park (I guess its soon 18 with Gatekeeper that looks pretty cool) Yeah, I'll be sure to drop you a line if I get the chance to visit Kings Island.
Just curious, what did you think when they tore son of beast down? Ever had experience with it? lol
Yeah I'm glad you and your crew like my characters. I'll keep em rolling!

I did have the pleasure of at least riding Son of Beast at least once or twice before it's demise in 2009.
I will be honest, Paramount's attempt to build in-house failed miserably. Too many corners cut and it was just ahead of its time.
= ) Seeing as you've been to Holiday World... I'm assuming you are not too far away from me. = D I'll be creating a video comprised of small clips from our last day of operation soon... maybe I'll create a small 'nuts and bolts' video for you, just so you can see how our steel 'railrunner' works.
XP Kudos and keep up the amazing work...

I agree with you. I think they pushed the limits of wood a bit to far. lol like you said, it was ahead of its time.
Yeah I actually live in Tennessee, but I go to school in Florida (Sarasota) - close to bush gardens (about 45 min). Dollywood is about four hours from where I live in Tennessee though. Holiday world is about 3 hours.
Yeah that would be awesome if you made a video for me
Thanks, yup I will keep posting regularly.

= ) Well I actually took some really interesting clips that where from when we did our startups in the morning. Because we got the ride a little late, we detail cleaned in the restricted sections (Locked Out of course).
Tennessee eh? I have family that live on the outskirts of Nashville near Thompson Station, and Sarasota? Love that area of Florida. My family always either goes there, Ft. Myers or Long Boat Key.
= ) After I create the video for my co-workers, I'll take the clips of the more 'ride oriented' stuff for ya... inspiration so to speak.
