Description
I normally don't do things like this. This was an assignment for illustration class - editorial illustration. I did abortion obviously. Please don't argue with me on your views or other views on the subject. I'm not going to get into that. But nonetheless this was fun and a learning experience. This is the first time I've done a portrait in digital and I plan to do another of a cyborg for my digital illustration class. The fetus was prety interesting to do as well.
2012 Digital.

I wouldn't call it life or death though, it's not born yet....
So, why do people have problems with abortions?

Because, everyone alive today was once a fetus too. Its wrong to get rid of something before it has the ability to make choices on its own.

Tecnicly, it's part of the mother who makes the decision, the fetus isn't alive on it's own and Stem-Cell research can lead to many wonder cures. Abortians prevent people froming screwing their lives just because they forgot to have a condom read and helps prevent overpopulation.
Hopefully your not against abortions just to feel socially superiour like a certain amount of vegitarians.

I'm not part of that "social superior" group. XD
But I am concerned about the issue of weather or not that life that is unborn is valuable or not. Sure, there's miracle cures and extensive advancements in medicine to be made through stem cell reasearch, but I'd rather have the Earth become overpopulated...

Unfortunately an over-populated Earth is the only way any politians would consider funding the space program to the extent that it SHOULD be funded. If the state of Vermont held over a billion people, a ticket to the moon would be the price of an airline ticket.
Sadly people never react to problems until its too late.

I know how to make sarin gas from regular household materials. I do believe I am somewhat of a scholar... Quite frankly, I am quite upset with the budget cuts Nasa has received in the past several decades, and while my analogy of Vermont is a bit of an exageration... its not too far from reality.

Just happend to be my current project, that's all. If you asked me last week, I'd tell you I'd been making Tesla Coils, the month before that, I'd tell you how far I'd gotten in dismantling the engine of my car. I gotta tell ya, that was a fun one.

Yea, but that's not gonna get us off this infernal rock. Why do you think I want the world to become overpopulated? Because no one is going to properly support a space program unless they have a good reason to do so. Anyways, stem cells are great and all, but Adult stem cells are where the life-saving research is at, not embryotic stem cells,(FYI).
People don't want to go anywhere as long as they feel comfortable, or if they can turn a profit. If we found a planet with life on it, do you think we'd go up there just to study it? NO! The big-wigs would want us to go to drill for the oil produced by millions of years of organic life forms dying and decomposing. Since finding a planet with life on it is very hard, making humanity a little uncomfortable is a bit more feasable.
Because if the day comes when there are so many people on this planet, that politians are considering Hitler's Gas chambers as a viable option for population control, that is the day that people like me will be supporting the bills to send my tax dollars to NASA.
So, please, no one needs to have an abortion. Go Adoption.

I don't care weather they're illegal or not. If someone is so irresponsible that they can't ensure that their offspring actually makes it past the age of four (either by their own efforts or due to choosing the proper parents to foster said child) and they think the only way they can stay young, pretty, and finacially carefree is to eliminate the zygote that is forming inside of themselves... well let them go right on ahead and do so.
If you don't believe you're responsible enough to continue the species, then its best not to pass that irresponsibility down another generation.

I love it its an amazing piece:
Critique: This piece of art is amazing, i like it how the unborn baby fetus is inside the orange balloon sleeping, and the girl is standing there almost like holding the string, with the needle and looking at the balloon with the baby almost like she is going to make a choice. I also love the words saying; 'Life or death.' it is like she's going to make a choice of popping the balloon and killing the baby or its like she's thinking it over.
Even though i don't like abortion, i ought to say this is a great piece.

by training, I'd agree with the above comment regarding text...
however, it should be noted that in a western, media-desensitized culture, it might not work to the desired effect without the words...
in fact, it's very likely that without the clear message of "choice" being articulated in words, many observers might assume that the choice has already been made, and all that remains is the death...
just my observation...
I wouldn't change a thing here, I only offer my POV for the discussion of the design's merits...

you bring up a good point. aside from a few bastions of liberal-ness in big cities, the majority of America is still very conservative and very anti-abortion. I could see how someone like that would assume that the choice had already been made.

it's mainly about the woman having the pin in hand, and seemingly "at the ready"...
it's easy enough for ME to gather that she's likely been HANDED that pin, and is still tryna decide the issue...
however, I'd never give THAT much credit for analysis to the average audience or viewer, especially not in the good old US of A... ya kinda hafta beat folks here over the head with the message, or risk it being BADLY distorted, lol...

Thankfully, it ended in an early miscarriage, so no one can flame over whether the choice was right or not because there was no choice to begin with!

I don't care what your views are, however a miscarriage is NEVER a good thing. I have lost both of my children. You can't understand how much it hurts to know that your body can't support life. I understand that in your story the pregnancy was unplanned and possibly unwanted, but that doesn't make miscarriages ok. Ok I'm done sorry about that, but you hit a button.
