Description I finally have the proper standard version of Leon's Desert Eagle (so i dont have to use my 10" version anymore with the switched chrome slide on it)

Leon's Desert Eagle from Biohazard/Resident Evil 2, made by Tokyo Marui in 1998. Only 500 exist worldwide. Apparently one of the most sought after airsoft guns of all time

Something im not happy about though i noticed today, there is what appears to be varnish or something similar down the bottom side of the frame (you can see it on the pic in front of the grip below the trigger guard, looks yellowish) So i now have to try and figure out how or if i can get this mess off it, and without damaging the surface of the gun.. Any suggestions on that are welcome (the surface is plastic) I could try a knife and scrape it off but that would damage the surface/finish of the gun..

The box isnt complete itself either, i got no manual and the 2 pin badges are missing. Still a good gun though if i can get this varnish mess off the frame

That varnish has most likely stained the plastic and will not be able to be removed without removing some of the plastic.

Probably. Its not my problem anymore, I traded it to someone in return for some props. I have a brand new one now in my display cabinet as a replacement

With the amount of detail put into this replica and the number made, I can see why they're highly sought after! O_O May I ask how much you paid for this neat collectible?

The RE2 Desert Eagle with the custom wood grips was one of the coolest Desert Eagles I've seen in any movie/game. It's cool how Tokyo Marui released this model right after the game was released. It's been over a year since you uploaded this pic, so I'm hoping you were able to get that nasty varnish off the grip by now.

badass the fact that there is only 500 out there is makeing me want one too, though an unopened version is always a safe bet. for cosplay though i go with a real DE50. A.E. with the firing pin removed and a prop magazine

This is my old gun which was in quite a state. My replacement is about as good as it comes condition wise. I highly doubt you'd find an unopened one. I dont think they originally came with a sealed packaging so anyone could open them which would be too tempting I gave this one to someone else as part of a trade i just wanted rid of it. Condition is everything to me so in this state i didnt even want it

RedDevil00 In reply to DamonWesker [2011-02-11 16:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes it did regretfully. Had it been in normal/good condition it would be cheap for it but in the condition its in it wasnt worth it. I wouldnt have bought it if i'd known about the mess on it. It was an auction ended up at $450 (not including shipping) Trying to sell it now so i can buy a new one in good condition

It looks nicer here than in person now with the damage i've discovered all over it. Not only that yellow varnish mark on the frame but also a big scratch under the front of the frame and along the side of the slide. Im not even happy with this anymore

Thanks. I dont WANT to sell it, im just not happy with its condition. I have no idea how to get this varnish off (assuming thats what it is, it certainly looks and feels like it) I cant use something too strong which could damage the plastic (had a problem with a melting slide before) Im not sure what to use on it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

I-HATE-CHEMISTRY In reply to RedDevil00 [2011-02-07 21:52:35 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if I could help you there. If I was trying to get the varnish off I would most likely try using mentholated spirts to remove it. But like you I would be nervous that it would strip the plastic. Maybe try sanding or scraping it off??? But if you scratch the plastic if would be hard to mix a paint to cover it. IDK sorry I'm not much help.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RedDevil00 In reply to I-HATE-CHEMISTRY [2011-02-07 22:01:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i had thought of that, i tried white spirit which is usually a good paint stripper but it had no effect on removing this. I tried to scrape a small bit off with a knife just to see if i could like get the blade under and try and pry it off but it wasnt working either without scratching the surface so i stopped. Medicinal alcohol might work but that is too strong on plastic, thats what melted my slide before so im not going to even try it. Nail polish remover is another option i could try, that sometimes works as a good stripper and shouldnt damage the plastic. If that doesnt work then im running out of ideas. If the surface gets scratched, melted etc then theres nothing i can do to fix it. I was lucky in that my other slide could be restored with the original spray paint but with a shiny finish like this i couldnt do that. I'll see what else i can think of to try, i know cheap cleaning fluid is a good paint stripper on acrylics but whether it could remove this mess i dont know, probably not. Worth a try i suppose. Thanks

I-HATE-CHEMISTRY In reply to RedDevil00 [2011-02-08 03:49:05 +0000 UTC]

I doubt nail polish remover will work to remove varnish, but its worth a try. Sorry I have no ideas for you. But if I think of something I'll tell you about it, but doubt my small brain will think of some thing so instead I wish you the best of luck!

RedDevil00 In reply to I-HATE-CHEMISTRY [2011-02-08 16:57:47 +0000 UTC]

Probably not but i want to try everything i can think of just to try, especially safe stuff like this that i know is ok to use on plastic. There will be something that will work but whether or not it will be ok on the plastic without melting it i doubt

maybe, depending on your price and shipping costs.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RedDevil00 In reply to I-HATE-CHEMISTRY [2011-02-09 16:18:36 +0000 UTC]

Well cost would be down to whatever you'd be willing to pay for it. Despite the damage i cant let it go too cheap and lose loads of money but whatever you'd offer would be considered. Shipping i'd make as cheap as i could, for the value of it though it would probably have to be shipped using a courier as standard mail value limit is £41. I am considering selling it though so i can buy a new one that isnt damaged..

I-HATE-CHEMISTRY In reply to RedDevil00 [2011-02-16 07:08:30 +0000 UTC]

I think I might just buy a new one in NZ, because by the time I get it shipped and the currency exchange it will most likely cost me a bomb and I'm currently not that loaded when it comes to spare cash after my recent gaming purchases. Also like you I will most likely be disappointed with the varnish.
Good luck in selling it though, hopefully you'll get your money back. Or even better you'll get the varnish off and be able to keep it.

RedDevil00 In reply to I-HATE-CHEMISTRY [2011-02-16 16:00:27 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough, best on your part. Well if im disappointed with it anyone should be. I dont think im even going to be able to sell this, or if i can im going to have to lose alot of money.. I dont even want it now, its not even just the varnish but those damn scratches and general wear all over it. Just looks a mess. How anyone can even get it in a state like this i have no idea, i couldnt do it if i tried. Im posting it on airsoft forums to see if anyone will respond with an estimated value on what i could sell it for. I just want rid of it so i can buy a decent one, the money from this sale would help fund that

I dont know if it was him that did it or if he bought it off someone else and just sold it on (without mentioning the damage) I bought my revolver off him and its in pretty much perfect condition so i expected the same from this and trusted him on it. I wont be buying from him again anyway cause of this. I have a 360

Nice one dude, I'm watching one of these on eBay now. Will probably go by the time I get round to buying it but ah well. Should have my Samurai Edge Barry Burton Mod. on Tuesday, Parcelforce have it right now lol. I'll be sure to put up a pic or two for you to see

RedDevil00 In reply to IscreamMachine [2011-02-06 16:39:24 +0000 UTC]

Theres one on ebay just now? I havent seen it.. Oh you bought that? How much did it cost you? Cheapest right now i can find is $700 but thats too pricey

Im not happy with this at all now, im almost wishing i hadnt bought it. This is the same guy i bought my revolver off and i trusted him. He mentioned nothing about any damage to the gun, not only is that horrible yellow mark of varnish or whatever on the frame, but theres also a pretty big and bad scratch under the bottom front of the frame and also along the side of the slide. For the price i paid for it im not happy at all. I'd probably have difficulty even selling it onto someone else in the state its in. Even if i can somehow get that varnish off i cant get rid of these scratches

IscreamMachine In reply to RedDevil00 [2011-02-06 22:31:13 +0000 UTC]

Aye I paid £520 including p&p. Expensive, but when it is theee most sought after airsoft gun of all time, it's worth it.
The Leon standard DE I'm watching is from the same seller I bought the Barry Edge off of. Going for £404 + £40 p&p in absolute as new condition. Includes everything.

I don't blame you mate. A lot of the Leon DE's I've seen on eBay, standard and 10" have been of pretty bad condition. Some actually have severe wear on the frame and around the trigger guard the paint has faded and its actually gone a plasticy yellowish colour. I'm yet to find a 10" DE that doesnt look heavily used D:
How much did you pay if you dont mind my asking?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RedDevil00 In reply to IscreamMachine [2011-02-06 22:38:10 +0000 UTC]

wow. Well if you dont mind paying that then its worth it. If i'd known this was damaged i'd have paid more for a good condition one. He mentioned no damage in the listing so i assumed it was fine. Not sure i'd even trust buying one again dont know what condition its going to turn up in, when you pay these prices you expect something decent for your money

Looks like if i want anything else i'll have to pay the extra to make sure its in good condition. I dont get how anyone can let such rare guns get in this state. All my others are in perfect condition. If i hadnt bought this one i might buy another at a higher price to make sure its good but now i've got this one and paid this amount for it i dont know what to do. Mine was an auction, ended up at $450 which i thought was a decent price for this gun. Now i wish i hadnt bothered. I'd even have trouble now trying to sell it on with the state its in.. Guns like these should never be skirmished or at least rare use, otherwise they end up in this state or worse
