Description
This is a design I made using a geometric pattern found in nature, specifically a branching pattern ( that looks like a Y ) where each branch was 1.61 times larger than the next branch as 1.61 is around the golden ratio. Ultimately I discovered that I unknowingly created the tree of Pythagorus in this way.If you were to take each right branch you would create a spiral pattern that is technically a fractal. I applied triangles to that pattern to form a template for the repeated shape shown here which are in slanted columns, a vertical repetition of the same colored shapes. The background gradient creates an optical illusion by underscoring a key property of figure/ground relationships, shapes on dark backgrounds look lighter and shapes on light backgrounds look darker.

I showed some people this to talk about the optical illusion, I feel like this needs to be in a book about color theory or something IDK <3
