This may or may not be my most controversial piece yet due to it's the underlying subject matter. For those that don't know, this is Sunflower.

She was a deleted character from the classic Disney film, Fantasia. Throughout the Pastoral Symphony sequence, in which she appears in. She is portrayed to be a small black centaur who is a servant under the rest of the centaurs.
Most prints of this film since the 1960s, have removed her due to her appearance as a racial stereotype. And even then she's rarely acknowledged at all, even to this day.

So, I wanted to see if I could take a negative situation and turn it into a positive. If I could turn Sunflower from less of a caricature, and more of a character.
I've seen a few other artists on this site redesign her to where she looks more like the rest of pretty centaurs in the Pastoral Symphony sequence. But I wanted do something a little different.
I wanted Sunflower to retain a cute but cartoony design, but one that's more flattering.

This one took a long time to do. Not only in just organizing the entire composition but even organizing the colors so that they made fit with one another.
This was done with a mixture of both Prismacolor and Marco Renoir pencils. It was my first time trying the latter brand. They worked great with the Prismacolors.
