Sliding effortlessly on thin iceyesterday slipped by.
Crawling through the baren winter forest today
I shiver and wince
snagging skin and hair repeatedly
on each ice covered stump
dotting this landscape of another life
undaunted by the pain
it's just blurred by bloody oblivion
only - really - fuckin pissed off at this pace
preferring to race through this history
jump over or under it perhaps
and leave it finally behind.
Associations, neuro-pathways formed
the smells are noxious
and obnoxious - dually bladed
cutting deep into the fabric of tomorrow.
Dropping seedlings of disaster into the ocean of my future - other life.
Gliding into this moment
spinning wildly
breathing in the promise of distortion and disentanglement
I stumble on to you
awaiting travel, awaiting warmth
with arms outstretched
you offer me a particle of containment.
And as the sweat drips from
your shivering brow
I understand duplicity
Clarifying and denying quest and angst
For pity emptied and defiled
melts the frozen ground
where, landing peacefully
I watch the ocean swell
with promise and potential
awaiting travel, awaiting warmth.
