Tornadopelt: Well, DashieSparkle has a point - the sun can emit powerful solar flares and CMEs which can play havoc on modern electronics. Never mind the descending of the auroras down to the equator. About that, during the 1859 Carrington event, the most modern tech we had at that point was the freaking telegraph, and the wires got so hot during that incident that they caught fire to the offices they were located in. That was in 1859, mind you. In our day and age, where so much of our lives revolves around technology and electricity, a major solar flare or CME would cripple us. All of our medicines, our communications, our satellites... GONE in an instant. We'd literally be knocked back into the Stone Age. Faster than you could say "Riddle Me This", Manehattan - nay, the world would be hit with continent-wide blackouts. Traffic signals go funky, causing massive accidents. Transformers blow, knocking out power to millions. Satellites LITERALLY drop out of the skies, taking our comms with them. So, it's easy to see how the sun would be a fitting answer to that aaaaand *sees the glazed look in the Sphinx's eyes* I just lost you, didn't I?

Another pro-tip: If you can, make the Sphinx's head hurt as much as possible.
Tornadopelt: "So, 4 legs, then two, then three... hmm, try the atom. The forces holding it together are gravity, the strong nuclear force, the weak nuclear force, and electromagnetism - gravity being far weaker than the others by a looooong shot. They help the two main types of quarks - up quarks and down quarks - stick together in groups of three to give the three particles that make up an atom, those being the proton, neutron, and electron. As for the other riddle, the 'hungry, turning red' thing? That could be a black hole, in that it's got a gravitational pull that not even light can escape from, and to any outside observer, anything that nears the black hole would slow down, stop at the event horizon, and then redshift out of the visible light spectrum aaaaaand *sees glazed look in Sphinx's eyes* I've lost you, haven't I?"

Since sphinxes normally have human faces, and ponies are Equestria's closest analogue, I guess it makes sense that Equestrian sphinxes would have pony faces. Could they be called Hipposphinxes?
