Description
This is a totally new panel with no original. It is the sort of 'slowing down' I want to do in sections of the story to give some better background detail, and also make the story a more enjoyable and satisfying read. All the narrative and dialog will be on the panel, so if you are reading down here, it is just my thoughts on the piece. It is a beautiful shot, and we are back to the familiar muted greens and blacks of the series. The neon green comes from direct sunlight, when you get it bouncing around and as indirect light it turns this shade, which is cool. This shot is a slice of the scene from the first picture, and it came out beautifully. I was intending to do this as a multi-panel page, but this sings on its own and I love the text placement. She is a bit detached from her thoughts and in her own world, so I wanted that narrative far away from her spatially.
There is some establishing information here as well, like her growing up underground, she is alone, and how there is no one else up here. She also never knew what this place was like, and I felt that was better to get out a little earlier because otherwise someone could think she was a first generation survivor. I don't want to give away too much because I will lose people in a bunch of background stuff, just enough to give the feel.

Seriously cool, most certainly on the right path for storytelling.
Well done sir!

Thanks! It's fun doing remixes on the originals plus adding in new panels, the story feels good this way. I want to try some paneled pages (I did one in this series before with the 3 panel running scene), but my problem is I love the shots so much they demand full-page treatment. When I get to an action scene I am sure I will change my tune and have fun with sequences. More soon and thanks again.

Thanks the exact problem I have with multi-panel pages. Unless it's just a headshot for facial expression or something, I want so much in the scene that it just has to be full page!

Here too, every "making comics" theory guide I have - and I have some good ones like Understanding Comics and Will Eisner's Comics and Sequential Art say that the multi-pane layout is essential to storytelling in the medium. I need to do a post on this to share my feelings more and explore, so watch for that.
I like full-frame, that is how I work, and I compose for that full-frame shot - almost like a movie director. To shrink that down I feel is to lessen the work, and since we don't have "guided reading" flipping to the next frame feels right to me. See the full experience, and flip to the next page - and it's like guided reading, one panel per device screen.
I will likely change my tune when it comes to action pages, I will need to. One of the biggest problems 3d comics have is they ignore that tool of panel-panel-panel, blam-blam-blam for action, and you get these static one-frame "time stop" panels where only one thing is happening. More soon and my thoughts.

Eli's suit also has a brand-new displacement layer working. You can see it on her right arm with those green bumps on black, and some of the raised details on her chest as they catch the light. There is also this strong feeling of a split personality in this image, just with her two lit halves, and her center being dark. Or maybe that is a darkness inside her being symbolized. That tree to her right side is so spooky, almost alive and looming over her shoulder.
There is also a very cool theory of broken space going on here, except for that looming, dark wall on the left side of the image. It is one of those things, and I just wanted this look with her thoughts floating in the darkness like that. Dark thoughts? Perhaps.
