More reveals, and the rank structure in this series is a bit tricky, but hopefully clearer now. The men have ranks and authority, but the female crew still looks up to their old leader. It doesn't help she doesn't defer to Admiral Braxton, so she has this issue of stepping on the men and taking charge.Or maybe Bryan is so floored by her he lets her step all over him. I would have a hard time dealing with a Space Amazon like this too.
Either way, this may be an issue later.

I find there's a difference between natural leaders and those who have to work at it. And as a recently-conquered people (by their internal clocks anyway), the Amazons would naturally resist kowtowing to their conquerors.

Great point, and yes, true.
Braxton made a number of mistakes already, throwing around blame, assigning people without information, and then asserting command based on that captor-prisoner relationship (panel 0010). He is also calling her out in the middle of a crisis in this panel and confusing the chain of command (even though he is supposed to be top-dog, he isn't acting like it).Β Ardalla has three goals: keep people focused, find out the ship's status, and figure out why someone is dead. She can't make a decision without information, so her first instinct is to gather as much as she can while managing the chaos and keeping people safe and productive.
She is stepping up here, and yes, that natural leader thing is showing. Though I bet this will cause friction with him later. I have been in situations like this, you go out on a limb and know you are doing the right thing, but you know you should not be the one making those decisions. It should be a superior, but the situation demanded action and you took it regardless of the heat later.
