Description I lived. She says I will be just fine.

Her name is Shade, an odd name, but she grew up in the shadows in a place called Sanctuary. Other people. Out there. I am amazed. And herself? Beautiful. Legs that go for miles, an ass I can't stop staring at, and the body of an angel.

She says Sanctuary is a religious enclave out in the hills outside of the city, somewhere, and somewhere she doesn't know anymore because she got separated from her friends on a scavenging mission here. How she got separated she won't say, and she keeps dodging my questions about her home. It's like she has a reason not to trust me, yet she does. Maybe she is protecting her people, I don't blame her in all honesty.

Of all the people I could have rescued I rescued an EMT, orange armor is EMT gear she says. Lucky me, and she has a really great knowledge of medicine. She keeps giving me exams and a clean bill of health as we both recover. She caught some sort of weaponized virus, a strain weakened by the years after the war I never knew about, but still deadly. She inoculated me versus it, and says the medicine I found is practically invaluable. Enough for many-many years for a colony of hundreds.

She asked about her gun.

I told her I didn't find one.

I know I am on thin ice here. Would she kill me to get the medicine and bring it back to her people? I suppose if she wanted me dead she would have let me die. She is from a religious enclave of survivors, my parents said to be wary of them, but she has shown me a kindness and tenderness that I never knew humans could be capable of other than my parents. Maybe she wants to take me back to her people.

Maybe I should. Maybe I am just being paranoid.

Another thing.

Yes, she is religious and talking about God and how He has a greater plan for us. How men and women should make babies after the world ended, and how it is our gift as women. I know they would say this is a sin and wrong but I just have this feeling eating me up inside...

...I think I am falling in love with her.

Yeah, there is this thing going on between them. Eli hasn't really asked Shade how she feels about same-sex stuff, she assumes Shade isn't okay with it, and Eli doesn't want to make enemies. The body language, which you picked up on (smart you lol), may say something else they are hesitant to say in words. We don't know Shade's background, or even what her faith or flock believes, so there is room here to go either way.

But, the same-sex question also isn't important right now, so Eli plays it cool and works on getting better. There is a lot more going on at the moment, Shade is lost, there's the question of the gun and the medicine, and may be keeping secrets so we have no idea. Not to mention the suits and the poor conditions they are in.

From Shade's point of view, yes, religion is her backbone and it keeps her going in a hellish destroyed world. I like that in a character, and characters with strong faith feel real to me. Eli may even join her, or not but still remain friendly to Sanctuary (or go live there - if they can find it). But yeah, religion is important for characters, and even characters who weren't raised in it (like Eli) will have natural feelings and reactions to faith and the faithful.

Faith is also something I would love to see more in comic books as something that makes a character strong. I would love to see Captain America go to church on Sunday, like many of his WW2 generation would, and have that just be something that is a part of him without dragging the belief down into some silly anti-religion supervillian plot (which you know they would pull, ugh). So I totally agree with you on this point, religion and faith make great characters.

yep and i agree with you to .
But shade shoud know that if you want to help some one you need to alway tell them Ture and not try to Cute Corners of it .
beacsue if she Dont tell her firend Eli about same-sex is bad and etc. then she will be hurting her self and her Firend . so shade need to do the Right thing , but tell her in a good way and not a mean way .

Agreed. Eli hasn't brought it up yet (just in her head and shared with readers), so Shade has no way of knowing. Shade could be anywhere from 'cool with it' to 'totally not cool with it' to 'let me help you understand why this is bad' so we don't know yet where she stands.

Eli grew up alone, so I bet her social skills aren't as good as her mechanical and survival skills are. Her parents brought her up, taught her what they could, and that was it. Her religious upbringing wasn't too much, just 'religious people are out there' and a warning for some reason we don't know why. Eli knows a lot, she is a bit of a technical expert on gear, so her and Shade both could work together well.

If they will is a whole other question.

I also like the fact these are different people with different beliefs, and you don't get this 'RPG party' mentality you see in comic books where everyone has to work together and then everyone loses their unique personality and history. I don't know how long these two will be together or if they will even work well together, but they are here now, stuck in a bad situation together, and making the best.

but the will need faith and works to get over this

Eli. Oh, Eli. She just can't catch a break. We take a small rest here from all the intensity (it's about time), and learn a lot more about the world. There is this fun conflict going on between them, and also a very fun one within Eli herself. The story broadens a little here with some mysteries, which feels right.

There is also a wonderful ethics conflict going on here with the cache of medicine. To rebuild the world, of course, Eli should give up the medicine to this Sanctuary. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one. But who are these people? Why is Shade so secretive about them? Why does Shade need her gun?

Beware of which "the many" you support, I bet Eli is thinking right now, even though her feelings are conflicted.
