Description
Where do I get hair that shines like that? Answer, you build it yourself. Huge problems with 3d hair are materials, baked on shines, and just a lack of that 'go to the salon and buy some decent shampoo' sort of look that a good conditioner would solve. A lot of 3d sets have textures and material settings worthy of cheap supermarket shampoo. This hair set did not want to cooperate with me in some areas, like the back getting a halo effect behind her neck, so I had to tweak settings for various parts of the hair. If I used a shader out of the box, I would not know how to do this and I would have to give up. If I know my materials, what they do, and how they work given a particularly uncooperative hair set, I have options and I can still use my shader while tweaking the parts that are giving me trouble.
Everything gives you trouble when you do 3d art, and it can come as easily as changing one light. Knowing your materials and how they work saves you a lot of heartache. There are some great materials artists and some out-of-the-box stuff is great, but knowing yourself how it is done gives you complete control.
Sundari's skin is also looking great here, especially for DAZ Studio. Oiled is easy, but multiple layers of a dry 'airbrushed' shine that does not blow out the skin underneath is the mark of careful materials work on a skin layer.

I love that effect with her hips being dark and the back lighting picking up the curves. Very sexy and classy.
