Description
This is one of my many attempts at sculpting a fiddling devil, suggested by the song "the devil went down to Georgia". www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDm_ZH…This is a larger version , made of sculpey .
FAIL.
Sculpey is notorious for cracking at weak points, if the sculpture isn't reinforced properly, which this one wasn't.
He broke in so many places that I gave up on this version before I had fully detailed it. You can see that the fiddle is still just a blob. He does have the expression that I worked so hard to get just right. .. that of a musician a bit past his prime but still cocky. I've done several versions.

Don't bake, more likely to make the thin parts break/scorch. Boil water, submerge the sculpt in water. Heats more evenly, minimizes scorch/burns and hardens the overall piece more evenly/efficiently.

Hey, the admiration's mutual. Beautiful sculpts & drawings in your gallery. Forgot to mention: After the water boils, I turn off the heat, THEN submerge the piece. Sometimes just hang it from a chopstick that straddles the rim of the pot of water.
Keep up the great work!

As a fan of your work, and of the song, this speaks to me - maybe more than it should. The details on the face are exquisite. I hope one day you are able to resolve a way to produce this just as beautifully as it is pictured here. I really felt drawn to this...thank you.

if you still have it, bake it, cut off the face put it onto the new version and hide the seams if it doesnt blend as seamless as you want it. The face is perect

Yeah I should.
The whole composition has problems though, we can't cast the hand, bow and fiddle in gypsum too well because they would be too fragile and complicated... so it sits there, with all the other unfinished projects.

Have you considered casting those parts in something else and trying to attach the multiple casts. I don't know anything about casting yet, but I found I can get almost anything to stick with the right glue.

Yeah, I have thought about different ways to do this. If the fiddle and bow were cast in pewter then they could be gold plated like in the song, but then the hand would probably need to be cast separately too , and joining that to the arm seamlessly would be tough.. too complicated.

I thought of that song as soon as I saw the pictures, lol. Too bad this one broke; his expression really did turn out well here.
