sometimes poetry is like
reaching into my brain and
dishing up alphabet soup
ladling outΒ a dribbling
messΒ with all the pieces to
make something substantial

trying to spell it all out
but there are never enough
f's for even feet or
b, c, d's for more rhythm or
z's for another stanza
always one k short of a perfect story

but I scoop them up anyway
chase those letters around a bowl
even if the outcomes amuses no one
but me.

This is a really cool poem. I really like the simile of the alphabet soup. Nice work

ya know, I was kinda disappointed that you didn't mention any prime numbers in here at least not explicitly, especially after you started talking about the alphabet too.

I like how several of the conjunctions are at the end of the line (rather than at the beginning of the next, as I would usually have them written). Same with some of the other similar-ish-but-idk-what-they're-called words ('like/reaching,' 'to/make'). And the line 'always one k short of a perfect story.'

Yeah sorry! it was an 'alphabet soup' prompt. Maybe I'll write you a maths one day.

I do that a lot, I don't know if it's an actual technique or anything lol but thank you! hahaha I liked that line too!

lol, only if you want to.

Do you really? I don't know. Subconscious style thing? I always think that the conjunction goes with the phrase that comes after it, so I don't usually have it separated like that.
did you choose those letters for a reason?

Yeah, f is obviously the start if feet, b, c and d are notes in music (so...rhythm), z is an uncommon letter but you need it to spell stanza (which is the literary term for verse) and k is slang for a thousand, and writers use it when talking about word count!

oh okay cool! I saw the f and the z in the words obviously, but I wasn't too sure about the other ones. (Why b, c, and d in particular? lol)

I use k often for thousand. xD I didn't recognize it when you combined it with 'one' though. XD

They're less common than the vowels e and a, and they all have the same phonetic sound ('ee') so that was better for the idea of rhythm than say...'b, c, h'

haha, considering that 'e' and 'a' are two of the 3 most used letters, yes. xD

Wait, you guys use h in music?? I remember something about this.. in an anime movie!!

Yes!!!Β

OOOPS H isn't actually note. In German it is (I think it means B flat or something, but they have a strage alphabet) but I actually meant 'F', which I'd already used AND had a different sound. TYPO now I'm embarrassed...
