Description Okay, here is my first ever tutorial!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me right here.

In order to successfully follow this, you will need some version of C4D, and some basic skills and understanding of the program.

If you find this of use, please fav or comment or both. It just makes me happy

For an example of what you can do with a model made with this technique, check out: [link]
I made that with a very similar technique, and the model can be found in my render pack: [link]

And if you're bored, check out the coolest page on the interwebz: [link]

Happy modeling!

How do you stretch objects? I'm stuck on that part.

Revelatus In reply to thrllskr [2008-09-12 04:38:36 +0000 UTC]

Make your object editable, by selecting it and pressing "C". Then go up to the size tool, and stretch it out in one direction.

Simply amazing. I started working on C4D a while ago and I stopped because of a lack of tutorials like this. definitely the best one I have read.

Excellent results man. Ive been admiring abstract 3d work like this for a while, but never really knew how the artists were achieving that kind of result. this DEF shines light on the subject. Ive noticed, for this kind of work a lot of people are using C4D as opposed to Maya or 3DS Max. Is there any particular reason why or do you think its just preference.

Thanks in advance for your answers. keep up the good woork

I'm not sure, but I find C4D the easiest to use. It is definitely not the best in terms of quality, since the program itself doesn't really compare to Max or Maya if you're doing any professional modeling. I guess it's just the easiest to produce stuff like this in.

thanks a lot mate. that's exactly what i was looking for as i'm not skilled enough in C4D and don't have too much time to play around figuring out different techniques i find this extremely helpful! great work and i hope u'll continue your great work!

This not even slightly 'advanced'. Is this just random stuff to increase your pageviews?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Revelatus In reply to ewaldb [2008-01-12 22:55:26 +0000 UTC]

For one, it's a lot more advanced than a lot of other 3d tutorials on here. I think you'll find, if you even bother to take a look, that most of the abstract tutorials here involve
1. scribble random splines all over
2. add loft nurbs
3. duplicate it alot and throw on a default material

There have been a few people asking me for a 3d tutorial for a while, and that is why I made it. This is obviously not aimed at people who have a lot of experience in this type of modeling, rather people who have tooled around with Cinema and want to progress to something other than what I've mentioned above. If you don't appreciate that, or at least except it for what it is, please leave and don't spread your ignorant nonsense all over my page. And to answer your question, no. It has nothing to do with page views.

On another note, I looked through some of your work and it's very nice.

well there's a shitload of tutorials following a somewhat similair approach. Get a shape, make it edible, either extrude it, put deformers on it or duplicate it and change the camera view. It might not exactly be your procedure, but the outcome will look the same regardless.

If you really want to make an 'advanced' tutorial, why not make one that includes lightning, caustics and materials?

That's like getting pissed at the Disney channel because they don't have any shows I find interesting. That channel is obviously not aimed to impress ME.

ewaldb In reply to Revelatus [2008-01-14 10:52:36 +0000 UTC]

well it's like Disney claiming they make adult video's. Creating false hope.

Obviously you are particularly skilled at this type of art.. This tutorial is not aimed at somebody of that level, rather, someone who wants to someday get there. If this tutorial is not advanced enough for you then why don't you go find one better suiting than spamming my page, telling me my tutorial isn't advanced enough.......
It's not even intended for pros.
