a simple shot on my sons canon g11. normal flash fired at the beginning of a 4 second exposure. after that burst of light, the sensor only records light. so minor camera movement does not matter.
the other option, is to have the flash fire at the end of the exposure. in some instances this looks more natural. Like throwing a ball... you look kind of stupid at the beginning if there is a motion trail afterwards.

hand held for 4 seconds after a normal flash, no foolin around.
It is a great camera.
