For some reason, I'm getting terrible slowdown on any mode but story mode, regardless of settings... even after updating everything. But I'll keep working at it....

Windows 10 Anniversary update doesn't work well with SFV. I'd start by rolling back that update if you have Win10, and then tell Win10 not to do "upgrades" automatically. Updates are fine, but upgrades like Win10AU are problematic.
