Description Here's something a little different to my normal submissions - an animation. I thought I'd do something different instead of photography for a change.

After I made Test Swirl , I had the idea to animate the swirling object floating around my head, but it was only recently that I decided to actually go ahead and make it. I experimented with various ways to animate it and this is the one that I found the most artisically appealing. Tomorrow I'll upload my uber-psychadelic version of the same; it's so colourful you'll think you're being hypnotized!

Full-view is recommended, as otherwise you're just getting the uber-low-bandwidth preview version.

Also note, it's highly recommended you /don't/ view this in Internet Explorer or any standard Microsoft-made programs. They have some rather poor .gif parsing libraries which will mean it will slow doesn to a crawl. Whilst Firefox or an actual image viewer program (not XP's quickviewer, that's a MS-made product and has the same flaws) have absolutely no trouble keeping up with all the data parsing on my computer, because so many people will just ignore my recommendations and use Internet Explorer anyway I've had to decrease the size of it drastically. The original animation I was planning on using looks much better but unfortunately, I have to cater to the majority of viewers. It's not worth it looking great for 10% and unwatchable for 90% of people, when I can make it alright for 10% and mediocre for 90% of people. So, sorry to all you alternative browser people; if we can convert more people over then the scales will shift more and it'll be worth doing things to W3C standards and not Internet Explorer Standards

Wow this is really cool. I love how it's not like normal swirls, whose sole purpose seems to be to give the viewer a headache.

Yeah, it was originally made as a test pattern that I could stare at for 20 minutes or so to look for discrepancies... so it's not designed to be hypnotic or mesmerising, it's designed to be interesting, but not /too/ interesting that I lose focus of what I'm supposed to be testing. And I think it does that all pretty well

Yep. Normal swirls usually piss me off cause they're cool and I want to stare at them but my eyes start hurting.

the smoothness of the greyscale is nicer than the colour one, gifs can be a right pain to get lookin good. works a lot better in Firefox like you say ;¬)

Yeah... 256 colours isn't enough for a lot of circumstances, but it's enough to do almost any grayscale you can imagine. Even still, getting a gif video-styled animation to look good takes a lot of effort... it always takes me at least an hour to get a gif that still looks good but has as small a file as I can get it.
