Description This gorgeous boy has found his Forever Home with SapphireEdge at Greenwood Ridge Equestrian !

History
Two years ago, Riverside recieved a call from a concerned member of the public who claimed to have witnessed a horse being neglected at a private yard in Shropshire. We immediately investigated and were horrified at what we found. Locked in a mangy old stable that was far too small for it, standing up to his hocks in muck and bedding, stood a scraggly, terrified draft horse stallion. He was clearly suffering from severe neglect as not only was he being kept in appauling conditions but he was also terribly underfed, suffering from worms and hadn't seen a farrier in weeks.

We tried to contact his owner (there was a large family home on the establishment) but we couldn't get hold of anyone, and on closer inspection it looked like no one had been on the premisis for a very long time. Further investigation told us that the family who had been living there had moved out several months ago.

The wary stallion clearly didn't like the idea of us approaching him, but after offering him a feed bucket he allowed us to get a headcollar on him and persuade him into the waiting horsebox, which took him directly to Riverside's rescue centre where he spent the next two years being rehabilitated, and after a careful evaluation we have decided he is ready to find his forever home.

Personality
Once Peppermint had overcome his nerves and settled into his new stable, we were struck by how affectionate he was. For a stallion, he has proven to be as gentle and sweet-natured as they come though he can get a little over-excited when he's exposed to mares in season (he is a stallion, after all). He's forward going but not strong, and he respects your presence. It was clear from the start that he has impeccible schooling and manners, whilst he is still a little nervy after his ordeal and can get anxious if he's left alone for too long.

This is NOT your usual sale/adopt/design auction - Please bid for him only if you plan on actually using him at some point!
We are looking for a forever home for this gorgeous boy, after the neglect he has been exposed to he will need someone who is patient and understanding.
The term "forever home" means he cannot be sold on after he comes into your care - we are not selling him to you, we are leasing him. The leasing is on-going and it's mainly up to you when or if you decide to give him back.
We would prefer it if you didn't change his barn name.
Feel free to register him with any groups/societies you like, and give him his own registered name!
Light showing/competing with him is optional and allowed.
Breeding from him is optional and allowed.
Gelding him is prohibited.
Selling/leasing to others is prohibited.
The uses listed in his Information section are only suggestions but we feel he will be best suited to these. You do not have to use him for all of them.
If he becomes injured or ill whilst in your care, or passes away unexpectedly, please contact us ASAP to let us know.
Please treat him with care and respect - he is a rescued horse, after all!
If, for whatever reason, you find that you cannot keep this horse or decide you no longer want him, please DO NOT sell or lease him! He will always have a place back at Riverside and we will always be more than happy to take him back.

If you need more information, then please check out the Riverside Rescues: Providing a Forever Home noticeboard on the Riverside Meadows account page , and if you still have questions then by all means, ask!

I will upload my (attempt) soon, i'm only new to digital art so please don't judge me! And yes, the dapples are hard to draw...and it was only after i'd drawn it and finished that I found out that you can download brushes for that (helpful tip for everyone else trying in for a place!!)

I look forwards to seeing your bid!
And using a brush for the dapples is absolutely fine.

Good for a first horse, huh? Hmm... what kind of companionship does he need? Human, horse or other animal? (oof, those dapples are going to be a pain to draw... might have to try it.)

I take the term companion horse to generally mean a horse who will be happy not doing much other then being a good friend. He'll be happy having anything as a companion, also being a companion for you if that makes sense.
And yeah, dapples can be a real pain in the backside to replicate! You don't have to do them perfectly since I'm mostly looking at effort and I know how hard it can be!

We've got no idea! It just said in his papers that he was half Percheron. Most of the people who see him at the yard agree that he's probably got some Shire horse in there, and maybe some Thoroughbred blood, too.
