An A-4 in US markings carrying French Magic R.350 missiles (I think R.350)?
Now, this is interesting.

the scooter is one of my fave 5 airplanes. nicely done, even if we had to steal some french missiles for the mission...

Purty, glad to see some more aviation stuff from you. Judging from the markings, this is a Nam era A-4? Usually thought they did strategic bombing etc and didn't carry offensive armament...maybe I watched too many docs where the Corsairs and Phantoms got all the dogfighting glory.

Aye - this is 'Nam era. As mentioned above my load out options were pretty fixed unless I wanted to go pirating other models... which I may yet do at some future date

Ah read ya Lima Charlie. A-4 wiki says them Skyhawks sometimes carried Sidewinders for defensive purposes in Nam so itsa all good...

Thanks. I think the thing really needs a specualar map... better bump map, and weathering... to sell itself for closeups, but at least I feel like I got a good lighting solution on this one. Your ex-Navy too, if I recall??

Yup Navy for 11 years and an Aircraft Carrier was my first home afloat but we used the F-18 Hornets and A-6 Avengers as primary craft then.

Oh yes. Ex now though. Although I guess to a degree I can rightfully now say, once Navy, Always Navy. I know that generally applies to the Marine Corps, but I think it can apply to all the services. As for me being Navy...yep..24 years worth. And I hadn't planned to beyond my initial 4 originally. Isn't it funny how things work out?

Looks great! The only issue I see is the payload, both aircraft appear to be carrying a load of Matra R.550 Magic missiles, which would not be appropriate for an USN aircraft.

Yeah, the ordnance is... well, not really configurable. If i was gonna do this up proper I'd probably have to steal some weapons off another model and parent 'em in. Something for the future!

Snappy! (or gluey, depending on your modeling skill level ). You get the sky lighting perfect every time - you must spend a lot of time in the real world

<--- Aerospace engineer/nerd time: the skin on the leading edges of the wings don't really hold up this close at this angle, but that's mostly because I've wandered around and around a static display A-4 they've got aboard USS Midway (she's been turned into a museum). I wouldn't be opposed to going again and taking lots of pictures for skin improvements if anyone's interested.

Hey, don't hold back your crits, man! It's all appreciated! I agree that the model has some shortcomings when it comes to close-up work... but it IS a freebie Ya get what ya pay for. If I were doing actual paying boxart I'd throw a lot more resources and digital paint time into this. At the very least I'd like to try and tackle a different paint scheme - maybe for one of the birds flying off CV(A)N-65? One of my old Hasegawa kits used to have marking for that, but.... it's long gone and I haven't been able to scare up any pics or profiles of those markings online.

I don't know which one's aboard Midway but I'll scare up the pictures I've already taken and see what the plane's done up as if you'd like.

Well, I can only find one of me right in front of an A-4, which is great for scale but otherwise not so grand. Oh well, sounds like an excuse to visit Midway again...

Are you talking about the rendering of the leading edge slats and sometimes shiny and irregular texture of the skin? Arcass cranks out beautiful works but usually isn't usually a stickler for absolute anal-level gritty realism. His strength is outputting more tasty-looking work in a month than most of us have in years...

LOL! That's me! "Art by the pound!"
Thanks. You're right in that most of what I do is more "digital doodle" than "refined art". Just something to unwind from a day of tending everyone ELSE'S art. But trust me, I can get plenty anal about things when the job demands it. I just don't usually work to that level 75% of the time. DA is largely a sort of "digital sketchbook" for me

That's good to hear then brother. Yeah, I've been there...going cross-eyed for other's glory and then making something COMPLETELY different for yourself. Similar idea of when Goya was a Royal painter making boring portraits of inbred nobles only to paint ogres devouring their children at night, haha!
You got a blog with some other work like Steve Berg or something?
