Description
OK. Really. This is FINAL 2001 piece. For the week.
Fastmax made a suggestion that was just too tempting to ignore, especially since I had all the assets ready to go. So here's Bowman's pod, just as he utters his famous "My God, it's full of stars!" line. His pod appears distorted and red-shifted as it's sucked into the monolith's face and the hyperspacial highway system.
Pod model by Andy Crook. DAZ Studio and Photoshop.
(apologies to LMAnt... I just HAD to do one more

Thanks! I tried to do something different and interesting with the moment. I'm not sure I quite got what I was after, but it's at least a fresh vision.

Yes ... very cool conceptualization indeed.
1. At first, one may not realize that the tan, grey, and light orange background is a depiction of planet Jupiter's surface.
2. That the black rectangle (resembling a doorway in your painting - very cool idea) is the mysterious "Black Monolith" that appears throughout the film.
3. And finally, that the red-coloured EVA pod is in fact the one in which astronaut Dr. David Bowman begins his faster-than-light-time-machine-warp-speed journey to some distant date in the future.
Once again, I love the weaving of all of these motifs into one image and how the painting encapsulates the core of the film.
Best wishes,

Oh, if I may request it, could you possibly upload an even LARGER version of this image?
I really want to look even more closely at the details ... not to mention keep a copy for myself.
Thanks for considering my request.

I keep on revisiting this one. There is something about the strong vibrant colours that keeps drawing me in. Love the placement of the red shifted pod it's almost like Jupiters famous Great red spot. Love it.

I'm glad you like this one.
Must be the bright colors
Jumping off your recent blog, this is one of those works that just looked amazing in my head, but I couldn't seem to find an angle in the real/virtual world that captured the same feeling. It's a subject that I may try to revisit and some point in the future.

No. You going to have to do another 2001 work.
You're probably looking at this one and saying to yourself,
"Damn, was this a good one. I was so challenged at doing it ..that I can't just stop off at here.
I gotta make another one -even more colorful than this last one."
That's what you're thinkin' ain't it, Arcass.

I really would like to understand the picture
I guess it is not enough to only have watched 2001 once?
Anyway, I can still enjoy the gaudy but yet quiet composition,...which is like a deeeeeeb and calm breathing ahead of a might storm that's coming up.
And would you please stop apologising, Sir!? (I just read that!)

It was a "light" apology
I think to understand this you need to have seen the movie AND have read the book. If anything it plays a bit more off the image painted in the mind by the book.

...or "Fertilization", as an alternate title, particularly if you take the globular cluster for an egg. Its a cool image and visually reinforces all the metaphors Clarke and Kubrick were working with in the sequence. Good 'un!

What wonderful subject matter!!! That scene following the famous line always disappointed me. I thought it could have been done better.
I gotta say I like your verison better. It seems more possible, I think, than all the light streaks and flashes.

Beautiful! Reminiscent of Michael Whelan and Bruce Jensen's works, in terms of color, composition and sheer graphic impact. Looks like a painting rather than a render - very nice!

Tnanks! I always thought Whelan's 2010 cover was one of the most beautiful images for Clarke's series, hands down.

Well the text was THOROUGHLY cliche
Naw, I was just wondering since my approach to the image was constantly evolving as I was creating it. And it's an interesting moment from the film to try and realize.
