You know, I don't consider myself a "smoker" per se, but I do like to smoke a pipe from time to time, especially when I need to think or when I am just relaxing. I've been on a "Cherry Almond" tobacco kick lately, but I usually get "Black Russian" or "Crown Royal". Mmm, gourmet tobacco!

Anyway, it was time to buy a new pipe so I went down to my favorite Tobacco store (The Tinder Box) and picked out a really NICE briar pipe on sale for about $75 (yeah, it was on SALE). I figured it had been a really long time since I had bought a pipe or much of anything else nice for myself, so I got the big money one. Two weeks later, the damned thing caught on fire inside of the bowl and started to crack, so I took it back and exchanged it for another one.

One week later, the second pipe nearly burned my hand off and cracked really bad (thank god it didn't explode...yes, pipes can explode). So, I took it back and asked for an exchange. Needless to say, the owner of the store was quite amazed. Not only was this particular thing a very rare occurance (like once a year), but it happened twice in relatively short time, and both times happened to me. He was embarassed that it happened (I've been a regular there for about seven years), and rightly pissed at the vendor that he got the pipes from. So, I got pipe number three, and went home.

Three days later, pipe number three caught on fire, and cracked badly. OMGWTF. So, I took it back. This time the owner was beside himself in amazement and fury at the vendor. He gave me my pick of his inventory (woo whee!). I heard later that after I left he called the vendor again, bitched him out for a bit, and returned the entire inventory of that particular brand of pipe (maybe 20% of the stores entire stock).

Wow eh?

So, pipe #4 is in this photo. Yeah, thats me. If you think I look bad, you should see me when I'm angry hahaha.
