that must be a high level armor if its covering so much.

Would you mind possibly PM'ing me the ring size? I want to throw a top like this together for a friend and I'm having trouble deciding on ring size.

These rings were wound on a 1/2' rod with 14 gauge wire, which makes for a pretty loose weave. I'd probably recommend using 1/4" with that size wire for a better result; which is what I did on this other one: robertllynch.deviantart.com/arβ¦

I'm just about done with a bikini top for a friend that's 16g 1/4" ID, a sort of happy medium to your suggestion. I just need to get some leather straps and figure out what I can do to secure them as neatly as you've done yours.
Thank you very much for the inspiration! It's not even done and she loves it already. haha

On this one, I just used common leather cord you can get at any hobby store, tied it to the top link with a basic cow hitch, and wrapped the loose end with some 22 gauge (I think) brass wire. For something a bit more substantial, you might try a something like a 3/4" wide strip of leather, punch a few rings vertically through it about an inch up from the bottom, and connect the top edge of the cups to that.

Nerd points count as a bonus on all rolls.
Do you realize the power of this armor?!?!

Such a simple, yet pleasing piece of chainmail!
Nice model, if you excuse me to say so!

Very pretty, but I still don't understand how this can count as armor

is that half persian that your using for the underwire and straps?

robertllynch In reply to nfrees221 [2011-02-26 15:47:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it is. With quick-release key chain hardware on the closure.
The majority of that though is still standard 4-in-1 European, just with smaller rings than I used in this one, and a much tighter weave.

im also in the process of making a bikini. im using 4-1 for the cups but im gonna be using european 10-1 for the underwire. unsure of what im going to use for the straps. id love to use half persian because of its flat laying ability while still having strength without using a lot of rings. the only problem is that half persian is extremely difficult for me and i cant figure it out to make it.

These were simple flat triangles, made with a standard 4-in-1 pattern with a one-ring reduction on each row. This doesn't make for a very good fit, but since the model wasn't all that well endowed, it worked well enough.
If you want to do a bikini properly, you should make something with a pattern like this:

It makes for a good cup, and much nicer results:

Wouldn't this in theory give a negative AC bonus? With a bonus to Dex and possibly speed?

rofl, thas fine until you run into a dragon, then it better have armor enchantments. i hate it when ppl have 20 versions of things like this in games though. some ppl do wear real armor.

robertllynch In reply to NuclearArbitor [2008-07-03 19:48:33 +0000 UTC]
That may be true, but considering that dragons aren't indigenous to Ohio, this is really meant for a different kind of "roleplaying" game.

Oooh, so I get the enchanted chain mail bikini? It had better have +9 resistance against British races, since I need all the power I can get against Lans for failing me...

I'll see what I can do about that...
But if you seriously want one (for personal or professional reasons), I'd be glad to make you one. Only condition is you let me take a couple pictures when I'm done to post here.

I'm guessing you also get a +5 bonus to all bluff checks in addition to the charisma bonus 'cause of the brilliant distraction it provides? "Comes in sizes: 'skimpy' and 'not so skimpy, but still quite skimpy'" It'd be a great ad!

+5 to bluff checks would be a feature of the enchanted chain mail bikini. (I'm making that next)
