Description
As the Knightfall storyline continued, Azrael continued to add and refine his costume in order to make it more practical in his war on crime. This meant adding stronger armor, enhanced weaponry, and other hardware improvements. Again, this was handled well in the overall story, as they seemed like reasonable, practical decisions, however how Azrael went about it gave more clues to his growing mental instability.I like this design better than the original costume, but I feel it still has the same problems. The colors are wrong, and a lot of the design choices are superfluous. I think this is closer to the idea of a warped, perverted version of Batman, and at least there is a semblance of Batman's logo on his chest. But again, it just doesn't say "Batman" to me. That may have been the intent, but I feel that it might have helped the message of the story to have Azrael look closer to Batman's typical costume in order to highlight the differences between the two.
I do find it odd though that a lot of the design choices that Azrael implemented- making the costume more like armor, giving it an onboard computer- have been later included in later Batman costumes to give him a greater "edge" in combat.

Of the two versions of the AzBats suit, I like this one better for taking the insanity of the previous design and running with it. This design is a pitch-perfect parody (intentionally so or not) of ridiculous 1990s character design trends. This is Batman if he were an early-period Image character.
DC: You want edgy?
90's Kid: Totally!
DC: Then you're going to love the new Batman! He now has spikes on his shoulders and on his leggings! We even took the cape off and replaced it with sharp pieces of metal!
90's Kid: Do the pieces of metal serve a function?
DC: Absolutely not!
90's Kid: Rad!
DC: But wait, there's more! Now he has a flame thrower and a Batarang machine gun!
90's Kid: I'll take 20 copies, one of each variant cover! With that many copies that are sure to appreciate in value in a few years, I'll be rich!
DC: Excellent!
Psychiatrist: Oh no, they're off their medication. Nurse, could you please get me the thorazine?

Well, actually, that was the point. Β The purpose of the Knightfall storyline- in part- was to address the issue of a certain segment of fandom wanting Batman to be more like characters like the Punisher or Cable. Β "Cooler" characters, in their opinion. Β So AzBats was made, and his stories were created as a way to highlight what it would be like to have a character like the Punisher as the Batman, to show why Bruce Wayne's methods were more preferable. Β
And, I have to admit, when I was a kid (I was right around the right age for this when the Knightfall storyline hit) I thought the costume looked cool. Β It took me a while before I was able to reflect on it and realize just how ridiculous the outfits looked.Β

Well RobertMacQuarrie1 well I do agree with what you said of his grwoing mental instability I feel that coustume wise my opinioni s the exact opposite because I actually like the first costume better because i thought the mask looked cooler. Not that this one is'nt either it just in comparison it just looked more bland infact the only two things I like about this costume is he does'nt have the belt thing on his leg because that looked stupid and that this costume has a Bat Emblem on it. Please respond to this coment as soon as you can and tell me what you think of this opinion. Warm regards 28ear.

As I said on the other one; I think in a way it shows how messed up JPV is and how his Azrael mentality perverts and violates Batman's mission.
