Description
Probably everybody's favorite character from Chrono Trigger, Robo is just one big woobie. He's got an incredibly sympathetic and heartbreaking backstory, but doesn't let it get him down and wants to do everything he can to help out his friends. Plus, he's got perhaps the BEST personal theme in the game, with Frog coming in a close second. In terms of gameplay, Robo is very reliable with a great variety of attacks. He can't use magic and is a little slow, but he makes up for it with his variety of special attacks and having a powerful basic attack. He's incredibly useful just by himself with great offense and defense magic, but also when working with other characters. It also helps that his tech with Crono and Frog is the first triple tech you can learn. He's a great utility character, but I wouldn't put him in the lead if I didn't have to.
Design wise, his style is very busy. In some cases, unnecessarily so. However, I wanted to remain true to the original design. A funny thing I noticed in regards to his design is how old fashioned it is, especially when he's supposed to come from the far future. He looks like something out of a steampunk adventure, not something from the far future in a time when people are living in domed cities. However, a fan wank explanation I came up with when drawing him is that when the party discovers him, Lucca uses her knowledge to repair him. However, since she comes from an earlier time, she is only adept at using the technology she is familiar with rather than the more futuristic technology Robo features. So the reason Robo looks a little old fashioned is because adapting old fashioned technology onto Robo was the only way to fix him. I'm probably giving this way too much thought, but I think it's at least good for a No-Prize.
