Description

Aaron Powell seems to live a charmed life, but it wasn't always that way for him. Growing up as the son of the famous and brilliant Derek Powell, Aaron felt the intense pressure to follow in his father's footsteps and become a brilliant scientist like him. But he struggled in the sciences and mathematics, as they did not come as easily to him as they did his genius father. Derek did his best to try and support his son, but Aaron still felt pressure from his classmates and his teachers to live up to his father's lofty expectations. This led Aaron to have something of a troubled adolescence and high school years, as his desire to succeed made him bitter and angry. It wasn't until partway through college that Derek decided to confront his son about what he truly wanted, and encouraged him to follow his own dreams and not try to be like his father. With his father's encouragement, Aaron dropped out of college and pursued his dream of becoming a musician, a decision that made him far happier and satisfied with his life. Once a stress filled youth, Aaron is now laid back and easy going, trying to make up for lost time. As a sound engineer and part time DJ, Aaron is finding a way to blend both his intellect and his passion for the arts. Aaron is one of the family that is the most reluctant in regards to his life as a superhero. While he knows it's important, it isn't exactly a life he dreamed of and regrets that it takes time away from following his passion. Still, Aaron is a dedicated hero and a reliable member of the family.

As Icefire, Aaron can generate incredible frigid temperature from the right side of his body, and intense heat from his left. This ability allows him to first blasts of powerful thermal intensity, as well as the power of flight.

Origins

Originally, Icefire was not part of the lineup. Instead, he was a character called "Reflex," who had incredible elastic powers. Again, I was never too attached to this because of the whole "Grab Bag of Powers" thing I wanted to avoid. But I always did have the name "Icefire" floating around in my head for a while, since I liked the name and the abilities it provided. So when I revised the team to have elemental based powers, I brought Icefire in to replace Reflex. It was also nice because it allowed me to avoid the trap of one character being "The fire guy" and one guy being "The ice guy" by combining them into one.

In regards to the look, that's one I went through some revisions on. I knew I wanted a design with the colors split down the middle, blue on one side, red on the other. There were certain design elements I knew were part of it, but I didn't quite refine for a while, like the flared shoulders and the facemask. It took me a while to get the patterns down right, with white being a nice balancing agent between the two colors, and taking heavy inspiration from Nightcrawler's costume for his bodysuit.
