Description
This is a rather personal piece and is actually the source of the other deviations that are similar. It is a "timeline" or portrait of my fathers' life, detailing twenty two years. The story is told by nine commemorative "trophies" that highlight events which hold high importance to me. The trophies are casts from his prosthetic hook, mounted on marble bases with laser etched titles. One, for example, is titled "Catch" and relates to him learning to play catch (for my sake as a little boy) with one hand after the loss of his arm. I am submitting the piece to a national portrait show at the Smithsonian.Related content

just the right amount of ambiguity to keep this series interesting. technology and huminism make the series cohesive. the different colors of each piece let me know that you are telling a story as do the individual titles. nice

Thanks, it was tough to work on, but ended up being quite theraputic. The other hooks that followed continued the process. On the other hand, it's tough to describe the piece without getting into the details. I installed it with no additional information, allowing viewers to draw their own conclusions. I think the background(of the piece) can sometimes outweigh the visual presence. It's also interesting that after making over 100 of these in different fashions, the original attachment to them began to diminish.
